One of my friends volunteers with For Jamie's Sake, a local organization that assists new foster & adoptive parents.
Basically, they provide supplies, mostly a few basic clothing items, to new foster parents. The majority of their clients are due to emergency placements, often family members who get an unexpected call from social services to pick up the children, who more often than not have nothing but the clothes on their backs (literally).
Anyway, the very short version is that they take in donations of new or gently used items clean & sort them, then when they get a call, provide needed items. Recently, one of their donations was infested with bedbugs. Their normal cleaning process does not kill bedbugs, and almost their entire store of items had to be destroyed. They are starting over almost from scratch.
They just had their first call ever that they were unable to fulfill.
Because they are practically starting over, they are in need of everything, but particularly clothing - in every size, both genders, any season. Most of their clients are infants/toddlers, but they do range in age, and they never know who will be calling, so will take anything right now.
They are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and all donations are tax deductible.
If you have items that you were cleaning out anyway, please consider donating.
Their contact information is on their site.
Thank you so much for considering!
And, to answer the question before it's asked - yes, they are working with an extermination company and a contractor to determine how they can efficiently add a sterilization step, that would also kill bed bugs, to their intake process.
