Playroom Wall color?

Looks like we'll be turning one of our spare rooms into a playroom. Right now the walls are a builders white. What's a good, fun, gender-neutral color to paint it (other than red)? We'll probably do one wall (or part of it) in chalkboard paint. It may also be a guest room too.

Re: Playroom Wall color?

  • Our playroom is yellow and I love it!

  • I'd just do an accent wall or maybe two of green or orange. I also really like this color:

I love that color. Ours was green but, we got really tired of it. Jackson actually asked me to change it. We went with a grey color. I am doing a map theme so it works nicely.

  • I've been thinking about painting ours too. I like the idea of a light yellow to make it cheery and bright.

  • I would go neutral and go vibrant with the decor.  curtains/decals/shelving etc.  (this coming from the mom who painted her nursery a BRIGHT green and black).

The only thing about going yellow is that you have to make sure your walls aren't eventually going to remind you of pee in a toilet.

Randomly, YHL just picked a color almost exactly like one I'm considering painting in my basement.  It is a Benjamin Moore color called Sesame.

  • When you are looking at the chalk board paint, check out the magnetic primer too (got ours at Home Depot).  We just did this in Ethan's room and it is so cool.  He loves it.  We did not do a whole wall and I probably wouldn't recommend that since it is kind of a pain to put on.  The primer is super thick and chunky.  It took 3 coats but they only take 30 min to dry.  It was very black but his light blue room color went over it easily and covered it up.  So now there is a space on his wall that is magnetic.  We framed it with some molding.  We put pictures of OOT family on it and his artwork.  I also got some little wooden trains and trucks and put magnets on them for it.  Also, you have to look in the craft section of JoAnns for magnets that say they are the strong kind.  I found them at Wal-Mart too.  Then I glued little jewels to them.  I will take a picture of it when he gets up from nap.  It turned out to be a very cool project.
