? about early babies.

I am just curious about age vs. adjusted age.?

What exactly is the difference? I know what it means but if you have a baby that was born 3 months early so he is 6 months old but his adjusted age is 3 months, does that mean he is developing slower or right on track for a 6 month old? (I hope this question makes sense!!)

    Well, adjusted age is more accurate or development and size. For example, my DS is 4 months, 1 week, but his adjusted age is 2 months, 1 week. His weight is in the 50th percentile for his adjusted age but not even on the charts for his actual age. By age 2, they should be caught up.

    Developmentally, preemies are not always behind. I have an Early Intervention therapist who comes once a week and their initial evaluation had him 1 month behind, although he was 2 months early. I'm sure some are not behind at all. But using the actual age to track developmental milestones would be very frustrating for many preemie moms, since adjusted age is usually more accurate.

    Preemies develop at their adjusted age for almost everything. So a baby who is 6 months old but an adjusted age of 3 months should be developing at about the same place as a 3 month old baby.

    ditto everyone else.

    my ds is almost 12 weeks, but devlopmentally more like 7 weeks in some things. some others he's right on track.

    I still compare him to a 12 week old and have to remind myself he was early and to give him time.
