Trying to Get Pregnant

No sex drive??!!!??

I have noticed lately that I have little or no sex drive. My DH is currently deployed but, was home for his R&R for the past several weeks. I noticed that even when he was home I had very little want to have sex. I KNOW this is not normal for someone my age (26) especially after having a "dry spell" for 6 months.

Does anyone else suffer from this or had experience also? I spoke with my OB about this back in April and she just waved her hand and said that I would be fine. I want to get this under grips now because when my DH comes home in December we are jumping back on the bandwagon to TTC and to have a baby means you have to have sex! Stick out tongue

TIA!

  • I experienced that before. I think it was due to the fact that I get UTI's EVERY time I have sex. I was put on medication, but the medication made me sick to my stomach so it did not help my drive at all. Just the thought of taking it made me gag and made me want to avoid sex. Honestly, I prayed about it. I went to see a urologist and he put me on a new medicine that doesn't make me sick. Now, I want it all the time. Is there maybe something negative that you relate to sex that could be affecting your drive? Our minds can really mess up our drive. It could also be a hormonal imbalance. I am a lot more into sex when I am ovulating regularly. I'm not an expert, but it's a thought.

  • In my experience, the best way to get my sex drive going is to have sex. (Crazy, right?) For me, I'm rarely in the mood, but once I have sex, it kind of reminds me that hey, this is fun, I want to do this more often!

    This. Exactly this :)

  • Its nothing against MH, I love him and I'm very attracted to him, but my sex drive is next to nothing when I have other things on my mind...which is--all the time. Its very nerdy, but I've started making lists of things I'm worried about, things to do, calls to make, things to do at work, etc and have them all labeled. There is a free app (at least for iPhone, I don't know about android) called PaperlessLite that I just adore for list making. For me it is mental, not a physical problem. Making the lists makes me feel like I'm allowed to enjoy sex, if that makes any sense. To the PP with the medication, that sounds awful. I'm sorry! I'm glad you finally found something that works for you.

    GL!

    I'm the same way, BV.

OP - My heart goes out to you, if you had to go 6 months without really seeing your DH you might be anxious when he returns. I think after a dry spell you kind of have to just go for it and the rhythm will return naturally. While I was caring for my mom the last 16 months or so, my DH and I were rarely intimate because I was so stressed out and I got more stressed about not being in the mood. Vicious cycle.

Best of luck to you :)

Definitely this - even now, as we're TTC, I found that if I don't start off in the mood, then I quickly get into it once we start.  Also, maybe try watching movies or books that seem sexy to you (I feel like the Outlander series does a very good of getting the libido up).

Ya, it sucked pretty bad. I'm definitely glad I found something that works, but get this. I was told the previous medication is okay to take during the 1st trimester of pregnancy, and the one I am no now says not to. Oh joy, right? I can avoid sex for the first trimester if I have to, but that still doesn't mean I won't get a UTI. Though, I'm sure there is something out there to take since UTI's are common during pregnancy.

ETA: Horrible me, I forgot to say thank you, so Thanks!!! GL to you.

  • My husband just got out of the Marine Corps and I can say that when he would come back after being gone for a while it was hard to jump right in to everyday life- sex included. However, the soldier wants nothing more than to know that nothing changed when he was gone. I had to suck it up and do the deed! And like PP said once I got started I liked it again.

  • completely agree with blindvictory. the more I have the more I remember that I like it. For us we sometimes schedule it in, not formally but by saying, we;ll do it tonight/tomorrow. It's something we sadly have to find time for, and by pointing out a time it helps.
