Snarky and T-TTC

WWSTTTCD?

I am so angry right now.

Co-worker set his iPhone down in 1 of 3 places.  Went back to retrieve the phone and it's not in any of these places.  He is distraught and pretty much useless as an employee today (as I would be).  It's one thing to misplace your phone or lose it, but it's another to know it's probably been stolen.

The employee works with students 99% of his day, so to even think that it was possibly someone that he helps is really making my blood boil.  He has already reported it to the reception desks on both floors.  We have already remotely wiped all the data.  (This can be done through OWA in case you didn't know) He has called the provider to make sure his account has been purged or whatever they do on a stolen phone.

We decided to text the phone with the following message:

"Please return this phone to the 1st floor reception desk. No questions asked."

Then I called down to the reception desk and asked her to play dumb.  He doesn't want to get anyone into trouble, he just wants his phone back.  We aren't even sure they got the text message since the phone was wiped as soon as it tried to connect to Exchange (whenever that was).

Is there anything else we can do besides pat down 500 students before they walk out of the building?  The ringer was silenced.  Ugh.

Re: WWSTTTCD?

  • That really sucks! Not sure all iPhones are capable, but if the GPS is enabled, can't you track it? One of my friends lost his iphone while playing in a huge pile of leaves with his dogs in Central Park. He was able to track it from his computer and find it.

  • I was thinking of the GPS thing too.  I'm pretty sure there is something that Apple offers where you can track the location of the phone.  My H did that when he left his on the bus.  He was able to locate it at the transit center headquarters next town over from ours where they keep all the buses.  I hope your co-worker gets his phone back!

  • I did mention that to him.  Not sure what/if he's gone that route yet.

However, the data has been wiped, so if it's an app that doesn't come on the phone by default, it's gone.

  • I downloaded an app from the itunes store that tracks down a cell phone number - it was called Cell Tracker and it has a free version
  • Oh no! That really sucks! I hope he's able to find it.

  • That sucks.  I think the GPS tracking is built in and not an app that you have to add.  I would try that.

I'm serious PM - you can download it and try to track his cell number!!

  • Someone turned it in this morning.  They said they found it on the floor in a computer lab that he never went to.
