Need Reassurance-The Transition to a New Daycare is Going HORRIBLE

Please reassure me this is normal.  DD and DS had been going to our previous daycare providers since they were 12 weeks old.  We just switched providers and started at a new in-home daycare yesterday.  They both had really hard days yesterday.  DD cried for a better part of the morning and was unconsolable.  DS was upset on an off throughout the day.  This morning when I dropped off they both were crying.  Our provider was good about it but I could tell she was stressed out by the end of the day yesterday, especially since they were both screaming when we got there to pick them up.  DD is very shy and DS is going through a stage where he cries when I leave the room so this doesn't surprise me.  But I need some reassurance that it wil be okay.  Or any advice?

  • I know this is tough but think it's totally normal.  Whenever we move DS up to a new room in daycare it takes at least a week for him to adjust.  During that week we've got crying at drop-off and reports of fall apart and tantrums throughout the day.  Change can be hard on little ones but I do think that with time they adjust.  Since you're only a few days in I'd continue to give it some time.  Your daycare provider should be very understanding of this.

  • It is totally normal. It is going to take a few weeks for your kids to adjust. When  DS1 was 13 months old we switched him to a new day care and he was pretty upset those first few days. But after a couple of weeks he was settled in and doing great. I am sure they will be settled in in just a couple of weeks!! Good luck.
