my hubby used to smoke here and there years ago. he now wants to smoke again just every once in a while. we got in such an arguement. i dont want that around me or my baby. any of you moms out there mind or dont mind if there hubby smokes weed??
Hell to the no! I would beat him for even bringing it up.
I wouldn't want my daughter to ever find out that dad did it when she was a baby so it must be okay for her to do it too! (You know how teenagers work).
My DH got all that crap outta his system when he was a kid. It's normal to be curious about it when you've never done it and all the cool kids are doing it. But when your an adult and you still do it, your just a junky loser. It's a waste of money, and a waste of your health, and your life, and your time. Why expose yourself and your baby to that? Why risk becoming addicted?
If it's a once in a while thing and not around your child then why not? It does not make you a junky loser. It makes you someone who wants to smoke pot.

Absolutely not ok with me! What if something happened to you or the baby? Would you want your DH high and unavailable? Not to mention, it's illegal. Not that I have never done anything illegal but my priorities have definitely changed since getting pregnant and having DD.

This. Can't see this coming up in my house as my spouse is a prosecutor--not a lot of drug use in that crowd

For the record neither DH or I smoke anything.
I agree.
I put pot in a different category than all other drugs. I've tried pot back in university and it wasn't for me. DH went through a wild period after his father's sudden death when he was a teenager and has tried more drugs. Now at 28 (me) and 37 (him) we have no interest and he doesn't even drink. All that said, if he wanted to smoke pot occasionally, it wasn't straining us financially, and not around the baby and I (and the only reason not around me is because I am breastfeeding and I wouldn't want to be exposed to the second hand smoke) it wouldn't bother me anymore than him having a couple drinks would.

This. I really don't see it as an issue as long as it is done outside the house, and he washes his hands and face and changes his clothes. I would also have an issue if it was daily, if it was costing a lot of money, or if it was a huge fatty and DH was so ripped he couldn't move for hours.
For the record, we live in BC where pot is extremely accessible, cheap, and pretty well everybody smokes occasionally. It is not like other drugs - and to be honest I think if one was to look at a few statistics (such as violent crime committed while under influence, rates of domestic abuse, traffic accidents, etc) you could easily argue that alcohol is far, far, more dangerous than a little weed.
Jes' sayin.

My SO & I are not into it at all. I don't have a problem with people who do it occasionally, but it's not for me, and definitely needs to be done far away from kids.
DH and I don't smoke or drink but DH was diagnosed with Crohn's recently. One of the popular pain relief methods is a little MJ. We both smoked a bit in our youth. It isn't as if he would be smoking it in the same room as the kid, or even doing it when I am not around or when they are awake. I have zero problems with it whatsoever.

I don't have a problem with it, as long as he doesn't smoke in the house. And it goes without saying that he would never smoke around her. We're all adults and I trust him to make good decisions. Neither of us has ever "permitted" or "not allowed" the other to do what we want, I'm not going to start that now.

OMG you must be joking.
You don't have a long list of things your husband isn't allowed to do? Like never, ever look at porn? No drinking unless you approve it?
Reading these boards, I figured everyone had a list like that.

Dh has a medical condition and has his medical card and smokes daily outside of the home. I would trust him 100% with any of our lo's. However I would never let someone who drinks watch my lo's. It would be really interesting to see how many of you drink or whose dh drinks and watches the kids.

I am sorry your H has a condition like this. I am glad you live somewhere that he can get relief though :-)

In CA it is legal by state law but not local or federal. So its an on going legal batter here. But for the time being he can buy it legally in a dispensery.

I love that you brought this up! I bet a lot of people just second guessed how they felt before.

My dad has smoked pot for like... 40 years or something (though I did not know this until 16) so me and my whole family have a pretty laid back view on it.
If DH wanted to smoke (which would make me laugh so hard just because he is such a straight laced anti-drug kind of guy - way more than me), I couldn't care less. Don't keep it in the house, don't drive around with it, and don't be so blitzed you shouldn't be around the baby.
Its probably the way I was raised (my mother's alcohol issues are much more destructive than my father's pot smoking ways, for instance), but I think pot is really not a big deal. Alcohol is much worse. And I don't care if DH has some drinks either (which he does).

He is not allowed to look at any porn featuring women hotter than me.
There may be a time in your life that it would be okay with you to do it, but the time would not be when you have children.
Perfectly said.
I assume none of you drink then? We don't, ever. Sure it is legal, but is it less harmful than weed?
I don't. Neither does DH. You obviously know why since we've talked about it in the past. However I didn't think about it being like drinking. If it were legal I would probably put it in the same category.

You realize you cannot become physically addicted to weed, right? Psychologically, sure. But you can become psychologically addicted to peanut butter.
There are lots of adults who smoke weed and I'd be willing to bet you know more than you think you do, they're not junky losers. I don't do it but I know lots and lots of people with stable six figure jobs in technology who do

and lots of us in finance, too! obviously i havent smoked in over a year and dont know if I ever will again, but there are tons of people out there who do. just because you dont see them doing it doesnt mean they dont....and i dont think theres any way anyone could ever classify me as a loser junkie!
In the house? no. The stuff gives me a headache. In cars? No
Outside every once in a while as long as he's not sitting out there rolling joints or packing pipes where people can see him? meh.
Seriously, it's not like he's asking to shoot up now and then
Truth!
I was raised by dirty ass hippies. Pot is just something that has always been around, but I was raised to treat it like alcohol. I'll raise my kids the same way. No, you can't smoke pot at 14, but I know you probably will so we're going to talk about it. No, you can't have a beer at 14 either, but I know you probably will, so we're going to talk about that, too.
I'm not endorsing it. I'm just sayin'.
I started smoking pot every once and a while when I was 16 years old (then after I moved out it was more often than not for a while). As an adult? Not so much anymore, but on occasion. Big whoop.
...and I don't buy the "addiction" points of view or the gateway drug BS either. 9 years of smoking pot and I have never even seen a "hard drug" in my life.
