Shoes, shoes, we need shoes

Amelia needs shoes.  She's trying to walk, wants to walk when we're out in public and I don't want to let her close to the ground without shoes on.

Amelia has one pair of hand-me-down shoes that she's worn once, but that's it!

I don't know what brands to consider and where to buy them. We want cute and good support as she learns to walk.

I appreciate your recommendations!

  • When they are just learning to walk, you want a good thin flexible sole.  Barefeet is best when you can (at home, etc), but otherwise you want to be as close to barefeet as possible to feel the ground and have the flexible proper foot motion.  I loved Pedipeds soft sole for DS.  A lot of people really like Robeez, and I know there are some other moms who will chime in with some good brands.

  • I like Pedipeds the best. I don't really like the way Robeez look, but they have a good soft sole. Target makes a knock-off brand of Robeez (Ministar).

  • yup, pedipeds soft soles. firmer than a moc (like robeez) but still enough flex for developing feet. and they are super cute- esp the girl ones!!

you really don't want anything with support. as she learns to walk grasping with her toes and her feet really feeling the ground is the best thing. gosh, she is getting so big already!!

  • Well Rena is obviously not walking yet, but I also love Pedipeds (she was wearing those brown Pedipeds for the pics). I like the Robeez too but I agree with the others, they don't look as cute.

  • I highly recommend pedipeds.  She also had robeez, but I didn't like the style as much.

  • I also loved Pedipeds for the first walking stage!

If the price of pedipeds makes you cringe (it did for me!  I don't spend that much money on shoes for myself...) check out ebay and Craigslist.  I got great deals on practically brand-new pedipeds.  They didn't have one scratch on them.  :)

Target has some softer shoes, but they aren't nearly as good... but it's an option.

  • I liked pedipeds, robeez and tip toey joey.  Pedipeds and Tip Toey Joey were my favorites.
  • DD is about Amelia's age and she's loving her pedipeds. She's doing some walking and definitely does better barefoot but still likes wearing the shoes. She also has some soft soled converse (their crib shoes) that work well.
