A friend of mine has been trying to potty train her DD for a yr now. She's almost 3 & could care less. The friend has tried a zillion ways but always ends up yelling at her DD about it. Then she made a deal, made a big deal about it for a couple of weeks - if she potty'd they'd buy her a certain toy. Well, they bought it for her anyways & she's still in pull ups not using the toilet.
I try so hard not to make deals that I won't follow through on. Now her DD, even though she already knew, knows it doesn't matter.
Re: Really bugs me RE: Potty training promises
It's worked wonders with her potty training, when she lost interest. We started by offering her something small (M&Ms) just for trying. Then graduated to she got a small toy every time she actually went, no longer got anything for trying. Now she gets stickers every time she goes, and when she gets 5 stickers she gets a toy. Kinda weaning her off of the prizes, KNWIM?
The biggest thing for me, and that I ask of anyone who watches her, is I don't mind if they say things like that, as long as they follow thru.
