It has been so long since I have been on this board, I should probably reintroduce myself! Here is a little background. I have been in a battle with my brain and my body for almost 2 years. You can skip to the last paragraph if you dont care.
Starting back in August of 2009- my cycle went MIA. I went to the doctor in November of 2009 and she suggested that it was stress and it would come back- she ran a bunch of tests, but ultimately said it was "Secondary Amennorhea" (or lack of period and we dont know why, now put your pants back on and pay at the front desk). I guess I have wanted to believe that it was nothing more than a little stress, and that it would remedy itself. And for the past 18 months my cycle has been on again off again.
I would "Bump" when it was here, I would avoid the board when it was gone. I would try to temp, but after a few rounds with no period or ovulation in sight I gave it up. I decided it was better for my emotional health that I did not need to start each day with a reminder that I wasnt ovulating. I knew I should go back to the doctor, but I was afraid of what they would say, and I fooled myself into false hope every time my cycle came back.
Now to my question...my cycle is actually back right now, and has been consistently for 3 months. The past 3 months have reminded me of how my periods used to be before this whole thing started 2 years ago. But, DH is at his really losing heart, and wants me to go to the doctor. It hasnt been 12 cycles, but it has been 2 years, do I call the doctor even though it is now "semi-normal"?

Re: Doctor Question (long, sorry)
First welcome back! I remember you and I'm glad your cycles have been somewhat consistent for the past 3 months. In my opinion if you and DH have been having unprotected sex for 2 years now and still nothing than I would definetly go see the doctor even if your last 3 cycles have been regular. That is what I would do. GL to you!
All of this. Good luck!

Definitely get a pap! Maybe find a different doctor and discuss your history. Maybe a new doctor will have some better advice and refer to to an RE if necessary.
I agree with this. If your doctor wasn't more helpful last time, I would consider switching. Also, now that you have had a more regular cycle for the last three months, it might not hurt to give temping another try! You can see when you're ovulating and make sure to have well timed sex and see what happens! Just another suggestion if you aren't feeling quite ready to go back to the doctor now that you're getting a more regular cycle...
I made an appointment, and I am hoping now that I am taken more seriously. I never have a set doctor, so I dont know if it will be the same person, or someone new. I actually did go through my bedside table and find my basal thermometer this morning. I will see if I can pinpoint ovulation, although I am still a little worried that I might not be ovulating- another reason to go to the doctor- I dont know why I drag my feet, when so many girls are busting down the door at 6 months, well before their time. I'm just scared.

It is totally understandable to be scared and considering it's been two years, I think you have every right to want to go to the doctor. Also, keep in mind that temping will not only tell you when/if you do O...but it can tell you that you are not O'ing. (So can the doctor with blood tests and u/s) It's just a matter of what you're most comfortable with. The temping may be a less invasive way, to start off with, to tell if you're O'ing or not. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck!
I can totally relate to this, and I think those are normal feelings. I am in month 11, but I have very long cycles and lots of anovulation, and still haven't called the doctor. It can be hard to accept the fact that you need help to get pregnant. I wish you the best, and hope you get some answers very soon!
Hi! Welcome back! I remember you, too, and I mostly just lurk. I can totally understand being scared when it is such a big thing that you don't really have any control over. IMO, though, sometimes not knowing if something is wrong can be more stressful that actually knowing.
I think you should definitely meet with a dr to talk about your cycles. If you didn't feel like your dr did enough last time, find a new one. You need someone who will take your concerns seriously.
Good luck! And, let us know how it goes.
