So- I am 37 weeks (yay!) and thus far I have had exactly ONE fundal height measurement. My OB appointments are never the same. They don't always use the dopplar, they don't tell me my BP, they sometimes check for just protein in my urine, and sometimes check for all issues, and they do an internal and only tell me 1/2 the time what is going on.
I don't know why but this bothers me. I'm not a first time mom, but the fundal height thing is weird to me, especially since I haven't gained a single pound my entire 3rd trimester. Am I worried enough that I think something is wrong? Nope- not at all- but I'm not paid to worry about that or check it either.
Thoughts? Would any of this bother you?
ETA Also- with C I got biweekly BPP from 32 weeks on because I take a host of meds to deal with allergies/asthma and they wanted to make sure she didn't get IUGR which can happen with asthma or asthma meds. I haven't had a single one this time.
Re: Would this bother you RE: OB Appts?
It would bother me. I know that fundal height is not an exact science, but it is used to throw up some possible red flags. If it seems off they can do ultrasounds etc to rule things out. As for the doppler, I would expect them to check the HR each visit even if they don't tell you the beats per minute. Urine...I know I always peed in a cup but honestly I have no idea what they checked each time. At each of my appointments they did these things and some doctors would give me the details and others did not. I trusted my doctors to tell me if anything seemed "off" and if I did ask they were happy to tell me.
The bottom line is, I would be asking them to tell me what was going on if I felt like I needed to know. If you're not sure why they aren't checking fundal height and HR I would ask. If they give you a good reason, great. If not, I would request that it be done for your own comfort. They work for you, and it's not like your asking for a special ultrasound at each visit.
I completely agree with Mrs.Cooley. I had my bp, urine, and fetal HB checked at every visit. Good thing too since I had BP issues near the end and landed in L&D once because of my BP at a checkup.
