Ladies Who EP or Pump at Work

How long are you going to keep it up? AKA when are you going to wean? I am pumping three times a day at work, and once before bed. If I was a SAHM I would definitely breastfeed at least a year, because I truly love it. But the work of pumping when I have to travel for work and having to miss meetings and work later because pumping takes so much time out of my day... I just don't know how long I can keep it up. I'm going to try to make it to six months. But even that is going to wear me out. What are you going to do? Do you have a goal in mind? It doesn't help that I hate pumping.

Re: Ladies Who EP or Pump at Work

  • I have been EPing since LO was 5 days old & my 1st goal was 3 months. We're getting close & my supply is fine so my new goal is 6 months. If I can, I would love to make it a year. I haven't gone back to work yet (I return in 10 days), but I have the benefit of a private office & work mostly only the computer (which I can do while I pump w/my handfree bra).

  • I pump at work and my supply has completely tanked. I don't pump enough for what she eats every day and I'm almost out of my freezer stash. My goal was to ebf for 3 months and I don't have a choice soon I'll have to supplement. I will probably still pump 3 times a day to give DD as much bm as I can. My goal is 4 months at this point but I'll be happy if I make it to 6. Then maybe I'll cut back. It's rough. I work in a cubicle so I have to go to the "quiet" roomto pump. It takes forever and it's even worse I'm not getting as much as I need. You can do it!

  • I've been pumping at work for 3 weeks now and my supply is ok. I somehow produce enough to keep up with her need while at daycare so far. The "how long can I really do this?" question has come up often in the past 3 weeks - I feel like all I do is pump at work (we have a mother's room in the building since I'm in a cube), but I remind myself of the benefits of it too. I was supplementing before I went to work...but now I have found that I don't need to anymore (or as much - at most 2 oz in a day...for awhile I was up to 8 oz of formula) so I do like that aspect....it's just a lot of work & I'd much rather be bf'ing than be attached to the pump.

Props to those that EP! It's no joke!

God , so true. When I find out a woman EPs, I just want to hug her. I'm definitely not strong enough to EP. As you can see, I'm whiny about having to pump only four times a day!!!

I've been pumping at work twice a day and have been able to get enough for the following day's bottles so far.  It's a good thing, too, since he appears to be refusing the frozen milk  :(

Initially my goal was to make it to 1 year but we'll see what happens. Pumping at work is a royal pain - I need to invest in one of those hands free bra things.

  • I'm pumping 3x while at work and it sucks! Luckily, I am able to get about 4-5oz more than what DS eats while at DC, so the supply is holding up OK. But it takes 20 minutes each time and doesn't feel good at all.

My goal is to make it to 6 months. If I can get it so that I only have to pump 2x or 1x while at work, I might go up to a year.

  • I named my pump PePe.  I think that pretty much sums it up.
  • I'm pumping 3x at work.  I totally am with you...it takes so much out of my day. I'm in such a small office and I have to tear myself away to go pump but I do it.  My goal is 6 months with the pumping at work.  And after that I'll take it week by week.  I know the longer the better and I want to shoot for more time but after 6 months i have to take it as it comes.

  • I'm pumping 3X a day at work and so far so good. I'm about to hit my 3 month goal, so my next goal is 6 months. I usually pump in my office first thing (I'm the only one here) and then my 2nd/3rd pump sessions are in my building's lactation room. I don't mind it, it kind of breaks up the day nicely. I have been skipping my lunch hours and just eating at my desk to make up for the pump sessions, but it's working out so far.

  • With DS, I pumped (while working FT) til he was 1 but nursed whenever I was home and he wanted/needed to eat until he was 19 months. I will pump that long this time, too (even though I absolutely loathed my pump by the end) and hope to nurse til DD is 2.

  • Ugh, my original goal has always been a year and I have been stressing out sooo much lately thinking about this. I used to get away with two pumps a day at work and that wasn't bad but now DS has turned into a hungry hippo and my supply has dropped so I am up to one pump before work and three at work, pumping 4 times a day plus breastfeeding sucks. Right now I am trying to focus on the 6 month mark and not drive myself crazy thinking about a year. I don't have an issue with formula itself since I myself was formula fed and turned out great I'd say but DS has such tummy issues I worry about him adapting to formula plus the cost since money is always tight these days. Pumping is a labor of love!

I have one and I love it! I don't use it every time if I'm in a rush between meetings but when I do - it helps me multi-task more!

  • I'm EP, and have met my first two goals (4 wks, 8wks) next is 3 months. I definetly want to try and go until at least 6 months but am taking it one day at a time. Also, I'm still trying to get him latched on, if that can happen, I have no doubt I'll make it to 6 months and maybe even a year. Pumping 7-8 times a day is a royal pain in the ass.

I go back to work on July 11th and am definetly afraid that pumping is going to take away the precious few hours I get to spend with Julian.
