Parenting after a Loss

If you formula fed from the start I have a seriously dumb ?

I bf'd DD until 5 months and then did her formula bottles after that. We had ventaire and really liked them. The smallest they make of those are 6 oz bottles. They don't make any smaller than those. So my question is, if we decide to formula feed from the get go this time, what do you use for bottles in the very beginning? Do people buy the pre-made liquid formula bottles or do I need to find bottles that are hold fewer oz for DS? Or does it matter if they take just 2 oz. out of a 6 oz. bottle?

Haha so confused! Thanks!

  • You can just fill the bottle w/ as little as you want and go from there. We used the four ounce Dr.Brown in the beginning, and now the 8 ounce (although she's only eating 4-6 ounces in a sitting.)

  • We used drop ins and we would just put a 4oz drop in, in a 8-10oz bottle. Worked just fine.

  • They very first week we used the pre-made 2 oz. bottles of Similac.  They were a lifesaver!  After that we used 4 oz Avent bottles and just filled them up to 2 oz.
  • We use Playtex drop ins (4 oz) and also BornFree (5 oz) and only recently purchased larger bottles.

If you use bigger bottles that should be fine too.

  • Honestly next time we will just use the 8oz ones. You can fill them with however much (or little) you want. Now we have a bunch of the smaller ones and don't use them because you can't even mix 6 oz of formula in them without it overflowing and making a mess.

  • I use the ventair bottles and have from the begining. We just put as much as we wanted in them. Sometimes it looked funny, but it still worked.  I know that when we were at the hospital they gave us the tiny formula bottles that you attach a nipple too.

As bad as it sounds the nurse told us we could take any home that had been opened. So the day we left DH opened an extra box, so we got to go home with almost 16 of them. I just used them when we were outof the house...more because it was easy.

  • I pumped and supplemented the first 6 weeks so we used the 2 oz premades. I think I'll do the same next time but if I were FFing from the start, i'd probably just do powdered from the start. I don't see anything wrong with putting a few ounces in the larger bottles.

This!  I would only buy a small number of the 4 oz or 6 oz bottles, because they become obsolete quickly.
