Playtime

Ok.. I'm starting to feel bad here. I'm reading the schedule post and someone actually has flashcards for baby!? I'm curious what "playtime" involves for your LOs.

For us, it's time in the bouncy seat, maybe tummy time. But most of the time DD activity is staring at me or cuddling and on her way to passing out for a catnap.

  • We do what you do. Sometimes I'll walk with him through the house when I have some things to do and he won't settle, and I'll talk with him then. Sometimes I sing songs when we're doing a diaper change, but really it's nothing major.

  • That is pretty much all we do too. I read her books sometimes too but that counts as her just staring at me lol. I also dance with her to music.

  • That's pretty much what we do too. Someday she lays on the floor and just watches her brother being crazy, and lately I have been putting her in the wrap so she can see out and I talk to her while cleaning.

btw... I love seeing you posting again Hels! :)

  • We do basically the same. He has no interest in toys or flashcards yet (I've tried out of curiosity). I talk and cuddle alot. His grandparents all sing and dance around with him. He loves his swing alot and sometimes his bouncer. I'm looking forward to him being more interested in toys so we can play together but for now I'm enjoying all the cuddles and smiles

  • We play on the play mat that has music, lights and hanging toys.  He gets tummy time on the mat too.  We walk around inside and outside and looks at stuff, we cuddle, talk, sing, etc.  We usually up for about 2 hours at a time, and an hour of that is feeding, changing, getting dressed, bathing, etc.  By two hours he's tired, gets swaddled and goes back to sleep.
  • Bouncer, activity mat, going on a walk, watching me shower or hang/fold laundry, errands.... Basically, I live life while chatting and singing to her! When we do anything, I chat with her and interact with her. At the store, I talk to her about what we are buying, what we are doing next, etc. People probably think I am nuts, lol.

  • We don't really do play time. I have to entertain a 2 year old to.

Most of her play time is just watching us be goofy! She gets a lot of special attention too, just not what I would call playtime.

  • We do tummy time until she cries which is like 5 seconds. Then I try to make her coo and smile, which consists of her lying on the floor and me doing nursery rhymes and finger plays like itsy bitsy spider. I shake rattles at her or make her stuffed animals talk and sing to her. I also let her play with this mirror toy that she can hit with her fist to make it play music or I let her just stare at her stuffed animals. Sometimes she just hangs in her swing or bouncy seat, but I try to limit that.

  • Honestly... I can do the "play" thing for about 5 minutes before I'm bored to tears. Then his play time is things like "laundry rides" (carrying him in the basket of laundry), being in the carrier while I putter around the house, going for a walk in the stroller, stuff like that.

I don't really think he's suffering with the lack of flash cards.

  • I don't do anything in particular either.  Both DH and I talk to her throughout the day and try to go outside at least once a day.  She hates the swing, barely tolerates the bouncer and had no interest in toys, so she mostly gets carried around or sits in the boppy on the couch with me when she isn't asleep.  I usually only sing to her when she's on her way to sleeping.

  • I don't use flahcards either. She is getting interested in toys now so she will follow any little toy around. She'll smile at them and hit them. She likes to hold on to her links even though she can't grab them herself. I sing a lot and I read her a lot of books as well. It keeps me from being bored.

I have to ask DH what he does now that I'm back to work.
