NBR - Empire Today experience?

DH and I have been planning (mostly dreaming) on recarpeting the whole condo and it's finally time to do it, now that LO is on his way.  We also decided that we would do hardwood instead of carpet (for the ease of cleaning, durability, etc).

Anyone have any experience with Empire?  I have a friend that lives about 4 hours away from me say that they were the priciest and they went elsewhere, with a local guy, but that doesn't help me as it's not local.  I'm going to ask my MIL who she had do hers but I did schedule an appointment for Empire for next week to get an estimate.

    We just used Lowes for hardwood and carpeting and they were great and affordable.

    We thought about doing that but when we went to talk to them about the carpet when they had it on sale (like a month or two ago) we couldn't even find a salesperson so it was kind of put us off from that.  I'll probably see if I can get an estimate though . . .

    I ended up going with Lumber Liquidators, but I installed it myself with some help...I've heard pretty good things about Empire as far as carpet, but nothing about wood...sorry

    We had Empire replace our carpet a few months back and had a good experience.  I was a little leary, but friends of ours used them and were very happy, so we gave them a shot after doing research at Lowes, Home Depot, etc.  I read some terrible reviews of them online, but we had a great crew and they were very careful and thorough and still finished the job and installation early.  We're really happy with the grade of carpet we chose.

    Just a warning, though, their sale commercials are a joke.  If you read the fine print, the sale always only applies to a certain subset of carpet/hard wood and it is usually a lower quality option.  You just need to pay attention to the sales guy and ask lots of questions.  Also, don't let them pressure you into doing a next day installation.  That's the only real issue we had with the sales guy.

    We called Empire to get estimates. They were $1000 (with their discount they were running at the time) higher than Home Depot and Lowes. As a PP said, their discounts are on what they pick out, so if you want the discount you have to go with that carpet or hardwood. That was a few months ago and they still keep calling. I've asked them to stop because we went elsewhere that was cheaper, but they won't.

    We just used Empire Today a few weeks ago to replace the carpeting upstairs in our house. We did a little research at Lowes and Home Depot before scheduling an appointment with them to find out what kind of carpet we liked and what the prices were. In our experience the costs were very comparable in the end and we were happy with the outcome. The carpet is decent although the installation of the vinyl was a little botched but that has nothing to do with Empire Today. The salesman was very nice and wasn't pushy at all. I will say that the "sales" that they advertise on TV aren't at all what they seem, we supposedly got "2 rooms free" but that isn't the case at all, we paid the same amount we would've if we'd gone through Lowes or HD.     I used Home Depot for carpet in my old house last year.  The price was good and if you get a "Change of address" form from the post office, there is a 10% off coupon that HD will honor towards that purchase.
