Hi ladies - I have a conference I'm supposed to travel for this fall, when I will be in week 28 of my pregnancy. I would fly, and would probably go by myself, although I know lots of people going so it's not like I'd really be "alone." As far as the conference being "work" it's pretty flexible - there are lots of optional things that I could skip if I didn't feel like it, and most of it's pretty low-key. I'm just wondering if you ladies feel/felt like traveling at 28 weeks. I have a dr.'s appointment on Friday and will ask her input, but this week is my cut-off to get the early-bird registration rate so I'm trying to figure this out! Thanks!!
Re: Question from 1st tri - travel at 28 weeks?
You can do it. i was supposed to travel to TX at 28 weeks but my class got cancelled. i asked my dr about any travel restrictions prior and her policy is nothing far after 34 weeks. I really didnt start feeling uncomfortable until 32 weeks.
that being said, i'd ask for a copy of your records to take with you just in case anything happened. i've had to do this a few times whenever i travel.
I am almost 32 weeks and would still feel fine traveling now... sitting in a car for too long I wouldn't be so thrilled about. But a plane ride and hotel...sure no problem.
I'm going to speak from a strictly "comfort" perspective... and I think it depends on how long your flight is.
I flew to Europe at 28 weeks and though it was tolerable, I was VERY uncomfortable. My feet were so swollen when I arrived that my shoes didn't fit and sleeping upright when my stomach felt like it was constantly being compressed was virtually impossible.
I had actually been invited to an overseas wedding at 31 weeks and thought it might be possible, but after that trip at 28 weeks I decided against it. It was well worth the upgrade to business class on my way home.
Basically, I think flying at 28 weeks is totally doable, but comfortable? Not likely.
I'd have no problem at week 28....the only thing is the 3rd tri fatigue really has set in, but as long as you could rest well at night (maybe squeeze in a nap?) you'd be fine.
of course, if things were not going smoothly up until 28 weeks, might be a different story.
