Blue cheese and feeling guilty about the day...

I had a buffalo chicken wrap today that had blue cheese in it. I looked at the indredients and it said that the cheese was made from pasturized milk. Does this mean it was okay to eat or do I need to still be worried? It has been a bad day for me pregnancy wise today. First they started painting our office and I had previously asked if they could use low VOC paint so it would be safe for me to be around. Well, I asked the painter and he said he was pretty sure it was low VOC. Luckily, I was only there for a few hours. Then I had the wrap w/ blue cheese (I had the worst craving for it) and a huge glass of Sprite (should have drank water again, but yet another craving). Finally, I finished off the day by mowing the lawn. I'm pretty sure that was safe to do (I did it thru most of my pregnancy with DS), but it was still really hot out. Feeling kinda guilty about the whole day. Can anyone make me feel better? TIA!

  • To my knowledge, as long as it's from pasteurized milk you're fine.  Which would pretty much mean any cheese in the US is fine, so I'm not sure why they harp on it so much...  so maybe I'm wrong?

Either way, I'm not a doctor or a scientist.

I believe you are correct. My doc said anything you get in the US unless it's from a farmers market or something is going to be pasteurized, meaning made with pasteurized milk. Also don't be so hard on yourself, everyone needs to indulge sometimes :-) and the paint was beyond your control and I'm sure it didn't affect anything.

  • Don't feel bad...I also drink Sprite because it doesn't have caffeine.  I figure it's better than a Coke or Dr. Pepper!

  • Most US cheese is pasteurized, except some cheeses in specialty shops.  Sugar is not bad for your baby, only for your weight since it is an empty calorie...I am indulging in Lucky Charms as I type.  There is only so much we can control as far as environmental things go.  Just minimize what you can, have sugar in moderation and relax.  Worrying is not good:)

  • Yep I totally I agree with the other posts. I also double checked with my Dr since I really like cheese LOL As long as the milk is pasteurized you are fine. This whole no soft cheese thing is seriously outdated. It needs to be rephrased "No unpasteurized cheese"

    Happy cheese eating!

This! I specifically asked my doctor this week because the soft cheese thing was confusing.  He said I can have any cheese as long as it's pasteurized- even blue.  So you are fine!

  • Any cheese made in the US is probably pasteurized and in that case totally fine! Pretty sure you buffalo chicken wrap was US cheese, unless you were somewhere really fancy ;)

I like to talk long walks, and sometimes I feel guilty when its hot and I feel overtired.  But then I lie down for a bit and feel fine.

same here -- with a lime... cus I am usually surrounded by people who are drinking & it makes me feel fancy! Plus I am sure all that stuff here & there is ok.... if you are drink Blue Cheese, doing the painting yourself & mowing over your toes.... then we would have some more scolding to do ;) I started out worried about the 100s of ways I can "mess this up" but I am starting to realize that if I want to have something here & there in small amounts -- I'll be ok... Hope that is helpful & you have a better day today!
