Trying to Get Pregnant

What to expect? PCOS/Clomid users please come in!

My H and I have been TTC since September.  I do not ovulate or have a period.

I'll start Clomid on July 11 but don't know what to expect.  Can anyone share their experiences starting Clomid?  What were side effects?  How often are you monitored, and what does that entail?

The doctor and I haven't gone through all the details yet and I'm anxious/excited/nervous to know how this will all pan out.  Thanks!

  • Clomid for me was great. I am currently on my 3rd cycle and while I have yet to get my BFP, I don't have any side effects at all. I do, however, take my pills at night before bed. The only thing I've noticed and I don't think its a s/e just letting me know it's working, is dull pains only during the days I take it. I've had u/s and bloodwork while on Clomid...I'm sure each RE has different monitoring guidelines though. GL to you!!

  • I am on my 3rd round of Clomid; I have to admit the side effects have not been fun. I have experienced head aches, hot flashes, and crazy bloating. I also have had trouble sleeping on the CD 4-about 9 when I take it CD 3-7.  I am being monitored with blood work and U/S.  If it doesn't work for me this cycle, my doctor is switching me to Femara. GL to you!

  • I didn't respond favorably. I didn't ovulate and developed a huge cyst. Which is why it's so so sooooooo important to be monitored.

Clomid has side effects of cysts, thinned uterine lining and HOM. One way you can prevent OR at least know about these things is to be monitored! You should have a baseline u/s and b/w around CD3, and then follie checks starting from CD10-12 until your follies are mature.

Other side efffects I had were hot flashes and I was an emotional mess.

  • My H and I have been TTC since April, 2010. After a year of trying, tracking my ovulation with Ovulation kit (I don't ovulate regularly), I was finally diagnosed with PCOS in April, 2011. I'm on third time using Clomid. I ovulated the first time I was on it and didn't conceive. The second time, I didn't ovulate. I'm currently on my third try of Clomid and have an appointment set with infertility doctor. I take a pill daily for 5 days on my 5th day of cycle.

The only side effect that I can detect from taking Clomid was some cramps. Otherwise, no other side effects.

I was very hopeful with Clomid but it's turned out to be pretty disappointing for me. Hopefully third time is the charm?

  • Wow, yes! Hopefully third time is a charm for all :)
