We went to our playgroup this morning that is for new moms with babies six weeks to one year. In the parking lot, one of the moms saw me loading C into the car. I put the brakes on her stroller down before I snapped off the infant seat. She has a baby about three months older, and she says to me, "Wow, you must really be a new mom. You use the brakes and everything! I think I did that for the first month before I learned to relax a little." I was so caught off guard that I just nodded and kept loading her in, but I ALWAYS put down the brakes on her stroller when I'm in a parking lot loading the car in case it were to roll right into the traffic. I'd do this whether or not I had six kids, let alone a new baby. Am I the crazy one or this chick??
Re: Was this a weird thing to say?
Ditto. I can't imagine being so careless.
This! I'd be so sad to see my stroller get hit by another car because it rolled into the street as I was strapping LO into the carseat and not paying attention to the stroller! What a wacko!!
This
Uh, yeah, she's just being careless.
The other day, DS's snap and rolled away from me after I thought I had put the brakes on before getting his carseat out. (I put my foot on them as usual, but one or both of them didn't go down properly, not sure what happened). I had a mini panic attack when I turned around and saw it wasn't right there anymore. All I had done was put a bag in the backseat. The stroller was right next to me.
DS was asleep, and no one saw me grab it quickly-but I was mortified and a bit freaked. It rolled further than I would have thought possible in about 2 seconds.
1. lol @ the fact that she said you're "really a new mom" while her first kid is only a couple months older.
2. Learning to "relax a little" =/= putting your baby at risk of getting run over in a parking lot because you're too lazy to snap a brake down.
She's an idiot.
There is a world of difference between being a relaxed mom and being a careless, irresponsible mom.
