Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Anyone make homemade peach puree?

What did you do to them?

I cut them up and just steamed them until soft and pureed them. No problem but they taste kind of tart so I am not sure DS is going to like them.

Is that normal for homemade peaches? DS has only tried a jar of peaches and those were not tart at all.

  • I baked them and then pureed them in the blender when Z was a baby. Oh and they smelled SO heavenly. I froze them into ice cubes but do admit to using some as ice cubes in a foo foo girly drink. Mmmmmmm.....Wink  Oh did you skin them or leave the skins on?  I always left mine on.

  • I would bake them in a pan with a little water.  Cut them in half and put the cut side down. They are done when the skin kind of pulls up (and basically comes right off when you peel it).  DS1 loved peaches.

    Mmmm that sounds good!

Mine smelled great too but are quite lip smackingly tart. It isn't bad but definitely isn't even close to what he tried before. Maybe it was the type of peach I picked.  Heck, i'm not even 100% positive if it was a peach or nectarine because I don't remember what the skin looked like. Ha. Oh well.

I guess I will have to have him try it and have the camera aimed and ready.

I think this is the route I will take next time to see if it makes any difference. Sounds a lot easier actually.

I don't feed DS any solids I haven't tasted so I know I have but I don't remember them being tart. I'll take your word for it though! Thanks!

  • Yeah, mine were tart too. I saut?ed them.

I'm waiting to introduce apples and want to try sweetening them with apple pur?e or juice. I did that with prunes and pears... DS gets constipated, so I give him prunes, but they're tart too. Pears sort of cut it.

  • I baked them per the directions on wholesomebabyfood.  Then I peeled the skins off and pureed.  I thought they were too tart too, but DD loves them!  I think it probably helps that babies don't have the sweet expectation!
