Shoulder Dystocia question (re: baby 2 delivery)

I know this isn't always considered high risk, depending on severity, but I'd appreciate any info. . . If one of your LOs had shoulder dystocia, were you advised by your provider to have a c-section with subsequent children? I have an appointment to discuss with my physician, obviously, but I'd love some input in advance. DD had mild dystocia. Thank you!

My son had a shoulder dystocia and then a subsequent stay in the NICU.  He was born at 37wk5d and was over 8 pounds.  When I got pregnant again my doctor was concerned that there would be another one if I were to go to 40 weeks considering the size of my son at around 38 weeks.  We never discussed a c-section, but did discuss induction.  He checked me at my 37 week appointment to see if I was dilating at all and since I was we scheduled an induction for 38wk1d.

Well, my daughter couldn't wait and came on her own in the early morning hours the day of the scheduled induction.  No shoulder dystocia thank goodness.  She basically slid right out despite being bigger than my son by a few ounces.

A history of shoulder dystocia may not make your pregnancy high risk but it does create more risk around your delivery.

    Good luck to you.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

Thank you so much for your response and I'm so glad you had an easy (is any delivery ever "easy?" haha) delivery of your daughter. I certainly hope this is how it works out for us! Thank you again!
