Currently on Day 2 of the 3 day Potty Training. Questions if you have done it!

I am currently on day 2 and its gone really well but i have some questions. I know girls train different than boys but hopefully anyone can help me

1.  How did naps and night time go for you? What is your schedule? He woke up from nap yesterday and he was dry (which has never happened). I was soo excited but he woke up this morning and he had peed all over the place. Will this eventually stop? What did you do about this? I really want to put him in a pull-up at night and go against the plan but i know I shouldn't

3. When did you take your LO out in public? and did your LO tell you they had to go when you did go out in public?
I guess it wasnt the best time to train but we are leaving for Chicago Thursday night and I am so afraid to go out in public since it would be at the end of the 4th day. Is it going to be ok on an airplane?

Thanks so much for your time!!!

Congrats- so glad its going so well!!

As for nightime training- what we did with our DS was we would wake him up either when we went to bed or when we woke up in the morning.  He goes to bed at 8pm and we generally go to sleep @10-11pm so we'd just wake him up and have him go potty and he'd go right back to sleep.  If we forgot we would do it when we wake up @ 5:30 am (he wakes up @7:30-8am) and again he'd go right to sleep.  We did this for just a few weeks and then stopped because he was either waking up dry or he was waking up to ask to go.  That was over a year ago and I can count on 1 hand how many nightime accidents we've had and he asks to go in the middle of the night MAYBE once a month otherwise he sleeps right through and is dry.

As for out in public, we always had him go before we left the house.  However he was 17 months old at the time so we were more careful.  Now that he's 2 1/2 before we leave we'll just ask if he has to go or not.

  • Loading the player...
  • we used diaper as nap and nighttime so it was less stressful (per this method), and once the daytime was under control, we just stopped using them at nap/bedtime.  (we never bought any PullUps). by then she was almost always dry anyway (i think "getting it" during the day helped her for overnights automatically).  she did have a few accidents at night, randomly the first few weeks, but i think those helped her learn what happens, so they were actually helpful... now she's been dry for months overnight and nap.

we could NEVER make her go like the pp suggested.  she will NOT sit on the potty if she doesn't have to go. so i guess that depends on the temperament of your child!  :)  we have a stubborn one!   but she PT at 21 months so we can't complain too much!

for your plane ride, that's a tough call.  can you maybe buy some cloth training pants?  not sure if you can get them in time now... they help the child feel wet, but have a protective layer to keep their clothes dry.  (better than PullUps that are basically a diaper) -- maybe do what some people suggest about using underwear and then a PullUp over that, just in case he goes on the plane?

airplane bathrooms are scary even for me, so i dont know if he would use it!  you could also try to restrict fluids before the flight so he doesn't have to go (hopefully).  Good luck!!!

ohh btw - we also started going out again right away, shopping etc... and i just constantly reminded her with "Let mommy know if you have to go potty!" ...  like *constantly*
