3rd Trimester

Anyone else finding that Babies R Us is way expensive?

So my mom took me on a little shopping spree to get anything I didn't already have for DS #3. I saved everything from DS #1 and DS #2 that wasn't stained, overly used or just plain nasty.

She spent $1000 which includes two new Britax booster seats for my two boys once the baby arrives. I ended up returning $896 worth of merchandise because I found it cheaper on amazon.com (plus no shipping charges or taxes).

I literally saved her over $300 on 5 big ticket items by getting them from amazon instead of Babies R Us. I also checked Target and Amazon was still cheaper.

I am not talking a couple bucks here and there, but hundreds of dollars. No, I don't work for Amazon.com :)

Anyone else notice how crazy expensive Babies R Us is?

  • yep...the exact reason I don't shop there! :)  Always cheaper some place else.

  • Yes. We buy almost everything from Amazon. With no tax or shipping, it really is less expensive than even Target. You just have to shop around.

  • Not a huge BRU fan (I didn't even register there), but I thought they price matched. Of course, that probaby doesn't apply to online stores.

  • BRU is so expensive compared to amazon! I wish I had known sooner or I probably wouldn't have registered there. I am now addicted to diapers.com. They have EVERYTHING for great prices (not just diapers which is what I originally thought) and free 2 day shipping. Definitely check it out!

  • Most of my stuff is Walmart and Target. I love walking around BRU, but I rarely buy from there.

  • Yup, i got most of my stuff from amazon and some from Kohls..(when they have their 30% off and cash back)  BRU is ok for browsing, tho. :)
  • I only buy at BRU with a coupon.  They send tons of coupons and if you are diligent you can save 20% on pretty much everything.  I've shopped around, but with the 20% off I haven't been able to beat their prices.  But you have to use the coupons.

i actually found them ok, because of all of the coupons. you can use multiple coupons at each transaction. I am FTM so maybe as we get settled and really know what we will need i will go to amazon or diapers.com... we will see, but so far i have been pretty happy BRU, the staff has been so helpful and they take returns so easily...i also get the rewards, i got a reward coupon in the mail for $25! :)

  • I made a list of everything I need/want for baby #3 and then priced everything at BRU, BBB, Target, and Amazon.  I then did the math including coupons and Amazon was by far less expensive on most things.  There are a few things I will be getting at BRU, but only with a coupon!

  • When it comes to the BabiesRUs in my area the prices aren't all that bad.  When my husband and I went looking for a car seat we both liked and a play yard we went to BRU to get the prices and then we went to other stores and tried looking online as well and we found that the prices were pretty close.
  • I've picked up some outfits there only because the clearance items are buy one get one free a lot. Other than that I get everything at Target.

  • Yeah, they are way too expensive.

  • Even with the 20% off coupons Amazon is cheaper here in TX because our sales tax is around 8.25%.  It totally KILLS me because I do like to wander around there.  On Sunday I sat in BRU with a CALCULATOR and even opened a store CC in order to add another 10% to my 10% completion coupon.  I walked out of the store with NOTHING!  There was not a single item that I could get cheaper or at the same price as Amazon!  Even when it was only $2 difference for an item I was just too pissed off to pay BRU $2 more.  Come on.  With their volume and being such a go-to registry place they sould offer SOME deals.  Even diapers at BRU are $3 more per jumbo pack than my local grocery (WITHOUT coupons.)  I seriously LOVE LOVE LOVE Amazon!
  • yeah, not a fan of BRU either. not just their prices, but their selection too. they don't carry a huge selection of brands, at least IMO, or ones that i'm interested in. if i go to an actual store i prefer target for random baby stuff or this cute little baby boutique by us. otherwise, i shop from diapers.com ALL the time! and love amazon too. there are a couple other baby websites i've had good luck with too.
  • Yeah, BRU is pretty expensive.  They've also recently changed their coupons to make them crappier.

I go there to look at things in person, then search for the best price.  There aren't many baby stores around here to see things in person.

  • That is why I shop at Walmart and Amazon!
  • Yeah it is, I noticed the tub I wanted was $39 at BRU, but only $29 somewhere else.  The only big thing I bought at BRU was my carseat so I didnt do much price-shopping

YEP! I ordered my Britax Marathon from Amazon yesterday after seeing it was $80 more at BRU.
