So, my boyfriend's family has get togethers all the time. The next one is the 4th of July. We are all encouraged to cook something for it. I have made something for each holiday and I am looking for new ideas!
What is your go to dessert? Noodle salad? etc. I am looking for more side like things or desserts.
Re: NCDR: Your go to pot luck idea
I guess it could be considered a side, but I always bring Beer Dip. It's the best stuff on earth.

OK this sounded gross the first time someone brought it to a function at my house, but let me tell you how AWESOME it was and the entire pan was demolished. Everyone loved it!
Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Chicken Dip
LOL! Hysterical, I just posted this recipe. Great minds! And great dip
Monona9 - my email is stellarstina at yahoo dot com
BonitaKaz - his family isn't big on beer. How beerish tasting is it?
LadyExtrav - my email above or post or PM. Is it spicy?
You can also substitute Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce in place of Frank's Red Hot and make a delicious BBQ chicken dip, too!
It really depends on what kind of beer you use. Seems like when you use a darker beer, it doesn't taste as beerish as when you use a light, cheap beer. We usually use Newcastle in it. Bud light made it blah... I made it once using O'Douls, but I didn't eat it taht night, no one complained, so I'm guessing they liked it.

I might do the Sweet Baby Rays! I just got three bottles last week for 88 cents each. Love sales.
Good point. I make a beer batter and I used Buschs instead of a better beer last time and it was awful. I guess thinking that you can use any beer for cooking is wrong.
For an appetizer, this is always a hit: https://www.food.com/recipe/baked-brie-in-puff-pastry-with-apricot-or-raspberry-preserves-48907 (I used raspberry and omit the nuts)
Dessert, a chocolate sheet cake: https://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2007/06/the_best_chocol/
I have a clean eating (healthy) pasta salad thats always a big hit and is easy and is best made ahead (make it the day before and no worries that day) but is fine made the same day too. I also have another spicy chicken dip (not buffalo) and you can control the heat.
My desserts are usually fruit pizza, which never comes home and is super easy also. Easy apple dumplings or apple pie.
I have also done the buffalo chicken dip many times.
I have recipies for all of them if your interested.
I love Grape Salad for outdoor gatherings! It's so yummy and make a LOT plus it's nice and cooling during the summer.

Caprese on a stick!
Grape tomatoes slice in half (on the equator, not the axis)
fresh basil leaves (one per stick)
mozzarella balls, sliced in half too
assemble on a tooth pick in that order
arrange on a pretty platter
sprinkle with salt/pepper
drizzle with balsamic vinegar
Always a hit, never any leftovers!
I've gotten lazy, and now most of the time I just take fruit. It always gets eaten before the more complicated desserts. Fresh pineapple, strawberries, and watermelon are well received.
Fruit salad looks more impressive, and also gets eaten super fast.

Hashbrown casserole - super easy & always a hit!
1 bag of frozen hasbrowns
1 can cream of celery soup
4oz of sour cream (1/2 of 8oz container)
1 bag of shredded cheese
salt & pepper to taste
Mix it all together and cook for 50ish minutes at 350.

You're all making me hungry, and dinner won't be ready for well over an hour
OP, deviled eggs always go over well if we can make it out of the house without DH and I eating too many of them. If you want to go fancy, I made smoked salmon crepes a couple of times and they were delicious. The crepes were a bit of a pain (make sure you have a good nonstick pan), but worth the effort IMO, and it's a repeater once I can eat cream cheese again. One of my old coworkers brought this Asian noodle salad to a potluck once; it was delicious, she said it was easy and she was right. Also, I've taken German potato salad to potlucks before and it's gone over well (that's not the exact recipe I used, mine didn't have dill, but it looks pretty similar and includes the bacon. The bacon is key).

Corn casserole is easy and always popular. I just made 5-min. no-knead bread for a cookout too that was REALLY easy and REALLY popular.
For desserts, a simple, easy recipe is Oreo Truffles. 1 bag of oreos- pulverize them in the blender. Mix in a mixer with 1 bar of cream cheese (softened) until it forms a dark paste. Roll into little balls & either dip in baking chocolate or roll in sprinkles. I like doing these in sprinkles and they're always a HUGE hit. Again- very easy too.

Devilled eggs are cheap and yummy but a little time consuming.
For desert, one of my go-to's is Cream Cheese Cinnamin squares... you use Pillsbury dough sheets, cream cheese, butter, sugar and cinnamin. Sooo good.
Blue cheese and bacon gougeres are also always a hit - they're like puffy, savory cookies!
Using those mini quiche cups -- goat cheese, cut up fig and cranberries and popped in the oven for a bit. Yum.
There's this Dutch dish my family makes too-- mashed potatoes, with endive sliced up, granny smith apple pieces and chunks of smoked ham. Sounds crazy but is allllwaaaays a hit.
I love this recipe served with pita chips, crackers, or toasted slices of sourdough baguette. However, you can lighten it up by using less (I at least cut in half and it turns out fine) butter, oil, and going light on the sour cream, mayo and cream cheese. If you don't want it spicy just omit the cayenne. There is also a lighter version posted somewhere online but I cannot remember where. I think that one uses yogurt in place of the sour cream also.
