Question for those who have kids with bad tonsils

DD has very specific behavior she exhibits just before her tonsils act up.  It starts about a week before she ends up at the doctors for meds or in the ER because she has a mega fever and her heart rate is in the 180s.   DD is at the stage right now where I am expecting in the next 48 hours to be taking her to the doctors.

If I take her to the doctors today they won't see anything except her abnormally large tonsils (which they always see) and send me home.  Is there anything I can do to possibly ward off the attack or should I just make sure my Tylenol and Motrin and popsicle supplies are up and be ready to take her to doctors in the next couple of days for antibiotics?

She has had tonsillitis 4 times and each time she has followed the same pattern. Exactly.  We are at the point where I am expecting the fever any day now.  We are supposed to be going away this weekend.  I don't want to cancel for something that hasn't happened yet but at the same time I don't want to go to someones cottage for 4 days and have her in the ER.

  • I would push your pediatrician for a referral to an ENT doctor.

  • SHe has been.  They have put me on a year long waiting list to get into the Children's hospital to see the surgeons and ENTs there.

  • Do they usually put her on prescription meds? If it were, me I'd be calling the pedi and pushing for early treatment.
