Non Clicky...Fireworks

Are you taking LO to see fireworks this year? H and I talked about this last night, and we decided not this time. They don't even start until an hour and a half past her bedtime, and I'm also wondering if the loud booms would scare her? In a large crowd, it would be tough to get her out quickly and to the car if she freaked. H volunteered to stay back at the house with her while the rest of our friends and family walk up to the display. Curious about what others are doing too?

  • Yes. We've got a nice park to go watch them in. If she gets scared or overstimulated we'll take turns sitting in the car with her.

ETA: Because of H's job we get to park with the EMS vehicles so we'll be able to sit in the car and get out easily if we choose to leave.

  • We probably won't take her to see them, but we can do fireworks at our house since we are outside city limits. We may do a couple but nothing too loud, she jumps when I sneeze.

  • Yep. We live in an itty bitty town and we can walk to a place where we can see the fireworks and walk back. It's past LO bedtime too but I think he will sleep through it anyway. If not, one rough night isn't going to hurt anything.

  • Probably not this year. Mostly because the fireworks won't start until way past her bedtime and that combined with the noise and crowd will probably be a bad combo. We'll probably get some sparklers and small fountains and let her watch those.

  • It depends on how sleepy he is but we bought him BabyBanz earmuffs and we will bring those with us if he gets too overstimulated.

My parents live right on the beach and they shoot them off over the lake, so it will be hard to avoid the noise even if he is inside.

Nope. We'll be at a relative's house in Vermont and would have to drive 45 minutes to see them. They start an hour past her bedtime and if the loudness scares her, we're effed.

  • Not sure yet.  We really haven't discussed it, however, since my LO tends to get cranky and demand she get put to bed around 7 or 7:30 each night it might be a no-go.  We'll just play it by ear.

  • No. When he is older and wants to see them, we will have a friend or family member take him. DH and I both hate fireworks... they remind us a bit too much of deployment issues.

  • I'm not sure yet. We are thinking about it but it all depends on her mood. I hope she is in a good mood so we can go see them though. I think she would really enjoy watching them.

  • Not sure if we will go see them this coming weekend, but every July 16th there is a fair right down the street from our house and they have a huge fireworks display every year...we are also celebrating DS1's bday that day so we will all be walking over to see the display late that night...there is no real way for us to avoid them since they are so close its loud. I think DS2 will be fine...we had DS1 out of the front porch watching them when he was 10 days old and he did great. More then likely DS2 will sleep through the whole thing anyway, but if he does get too freaked out one of us or our babysitter will take him back by the house.

  • No. We aren't doing anything big for the 4th. I also have never liked fireworks very much anyway, since they scared me as a little kid. Even now, the noise bothers me.

  • We live at the beach and can see 3 shows over the ocean (including Sea World's) so yeah, we will take LO outside on the sand if he is still awake.  If not, we have a monitor so DH and I will sit on the patio and watch.

  • No, I hadn't even considered it. Firework shows are all past his bed time and I wouldn't keep him up for that. Private fireworks are illegal here.
