Another travel?

We are taking C's Marathon on the plane and we will probably get a Travelmate to wheel it around at the airport.  So here is another question - do we check his stroller when we check the rest of our bags or do we gate check it?

Seems like a silly question, but this is the first time flying with C having his own seat.

Re: Another travel?

  • I'd check it with the other bags. You can strap him into the car seat with the travelmate, right? If so you won't need the stroller in the airport. It would just be one more thing to deal with through security.

No idea if it's true, but i've heard that gate-checked items like strollers tend to get bumped around less than regularly checked items.

    I've wondered that too Fred.

  • I usually gate-check mine... and I use it as a stroller in the airport.

If you do check it when you check in, I would invest in some sort of cover or protection.

The only time I have had a car seat broken when flying was when it was gate checked, so now we always check car seats with our luggage, in a car seat bag. Saying that we do gate check our stroller, because we use it through the airport.

Siiiiigh, if only that were true.

Sometimes you'll get charged to check it with the rest of the luggage, but not if you gate check it.  Look online for your airline's policy on that stuff and print it out, so if they give you a hard time, you have all the info there.  Also, I wouldn't check a good stroller, period.  Get a cheapie umbrella stroller.  That way if it does get destroyed, you won't care.
