Trying to Get Pregnant

New Girl

Hi Ladies,

I have been lurking on the boards for a week now, and have really enjoyed the comments, and advice you give to others. And now I have a question.

DH and I have been married for nearly two years, and last August I went off BCP. at that time we were simply not preventing getting pregnant. We actively started around November, and in December I had a miscarriage (two weeks along). I guess I'm wondering if the miscarriage resets the timer, so that I would count a year from December, or would it be August or November?

I mainly ask this, because this September I'm going to be 34, and am wanting to keep an eye on when I need to go to a specialist.

  • Not to sound totally insensitive, but you MC'd at 2 weeks?  That's like 2 weeks into your cycle...around the time you'd ovulate.

Yes, generaly it "resets" your timeline.  The "age cut off" is generally 35.

  • by two weeks, i meant two weeks after ovulation, my period started the day it was supposed to... and lasted 5 weeks.

I hope this doesn't come off as insensitive, but did you get confirmation that you had been pregnant?  Did the doctor measure your HCG?  Is it possible you had a hemotoma? It doesn't make sense to me that you started at your correct time and were actually pregnant.  I'm not a medical doctor or anything, but I am a woman and I have had 3 losses, so I do know a little about that.

If you were in fact pregnant, I am sorry for your loss.

That's not quite how pregnancy works.  When you get a +HPT you are already 4 weeks.

  • My periods have not been longer than 5 days in years, when it hadn't stopped after 10 I went to the obgyn, who took blood and stick tests and said it was positive.

I had taken a test the day I started (before I started) and it was negative, but two weeks later it was positive at the Dr's office. It wasn't something I was expecting to hear, I figured there was something more serious wrong with me. But the tests all confirmed that I had, in fact, been pregnant.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. You could give your doctor a call and see when she thinks would be an appropriate time to see a specialist since she knows your body and cycle better than we do.
