This makes me cry! I have to start looking, and I heard we are one of the most expensive states for daycare, but really?!?!
Our top choice is $1892 monthly which = $86/day x 22 days. We're in Chicago.
I am in Farmingdale so I feel your pain. I have yet to start calling around. Please let me know if you find anything reasonable.

nannies usually cost more than daycare (unless you share or have more than one child)
Ours is betweeen $1200 - 1400 per month for daycare. Although, since they start at age 1 - the price isnt that high for too long. The price decreases in toddler care. I think that starts at 18mths.
Anywhere from $25-$35 a day depending on the age of the child. We however have government subsidy for low income families and it is generally a 2 - 3 year wait to get your child in a subsidized facility.
We don't qualify for subsidy so we are looking at the full price so about $700 a month, if I go back to work.
I can't believe how expensive childcare is around the states! I guess they can charge whatever they want because they know you have to go back to work so they pretty much have you by the short and curlies. I live in South Carolina and the average rate I've been getting is about $140/wk and I would have to provide diapers, wipes, formula, clothes, etc. I am glad I live in a little town and not in a big city b/c I definitely would not be able to go back to work. My mother-in-law will be retiring next year so I'm hoping I can get the "grandma" discount.
I'm also in the area and am kinda jealous of your mortgage... but for real, we are lucky that our good family friends own a daycare center that is just across the street from my moms house. I am pretty sure that we are getting a discount but we might only be sending him part time.
In Westchester, NY I'm getting pricing from $1020 to $1400 per month for 3 days/week!! It's craziness!!!

Ours will be around $750-$900/week, but we're in a HCOL (Chicago). We're looking more for PT care, but the higher quality places don't really want to do that (or won't adjust the price accordingly)

Salt Lake City - $228/week.
Washington, D.C. Metro (all infant care)
Center - $1600-1900 so $400-475 a week
In home - $200 - 300 a week
Nanny - $17 an hour and up. I have seen some costing 75K a year.
I'm at about that in West-Central Florida. ($800 - 900 per month) for full time infant. I'm down to about $600 per month for my 3 year old. For about 9 months I'll be working almost free.
