G's birthday party is this weekend and I'm kind of stressing about what kind of food to make. I would just do a BBQ since it's going to be a nice summer day, but my mom, G and I are all gluten-free, and I also have a couple vegetarians coming. Sooo, I'm thinking burgers and hotdogs are out.
The only two things I can think of making are lasagna (made with GF noodles) one vegetarian & one with meat OR enchiladas (one tray of cheese and one with chicken and cheese). Both of those ideas feel kind of labor intensive though considering I also have to make G's cake since he needs it to be GF. Any ideas on what else I could serve or ideas on things to serve with either lasagna or enchiladas?
Also, I plan on giving out the standard goody bags, but most of the people coming to the party are adults. We have one other child coming. What the heck do I put in goody bags for a 1st birthday party that are being given to adults?? Candy? What else?
Re: Birthday Party/Menu Help
Yeah, I don't think I've actually seen GF buns but even if they do make them, GF bread products tend to be... not good. Even if the buns weren't an issue the meat would be a problem for my vegetarians. Darn everyone and their dietary restrictions! I should have just made the party earlier in the day and just served appetizers.
I'm not so much excited about the goody bags as I already have the bags with little personalized tags that say "Thank you for making my party a hoot! love, G" so it would be a shame to not use them. When I got them I thought we would be having more little one's coming but my friends with kids couldn't make it.
My stepmom is GF so I usually end up at a delish bakery in Danville (don't know where you are
and they have many yummy things for her including buns, pasty, cupcakes etc...
For Lucas' Birthday bags I just did a cute thank you for coming tag with a cookie shaped as a car since it was in his theme...
Could you just make or buy a treat that is along his theme/colors?
Brilliant! Seriously don't know why I didn't think of that. lol. I was kind of thinking I needed to fill it with a bunch of small items, but a cookie is a great idea!
I'm no help because honestly, when I host a party, I make food that I like or my kids like....if there are dietary restrictions, I hate to say it but I kind of leave it up to the parents. That said, Natalie's birthday had a meat lasagne, a veggie lasagne, a crock pot of spaghetti sauce and plain noodles and butter.
If you really want to do favors, do some sort of food favor: cookies, suckers, etc.
Great idea!! And LOL at the gross GF stuff.
