Harper... for a boy?

Looking for opinions on Harper, for a boy. My DH just said he really likes this name for our little guy, but I guess I've always thought of it as a girls name? I think its originally a boy name, but starting to turn girl (why do the ones we like all do that!?!? ugh!)

Baby's full name would be Harper Liam B_____.

Anyway, wanted some input on if this name is boy or girl?

I'd never give it to a boy given its current trendiness for girls. It's 100% girl now, imo.

Meredith, Stacey, and Lindsey were originally boy names, but, like Harper, I think they have all firmly fallen into the "girl name" category. I wouldn't do it.

It's very trendy for girls right now. I know 3 baby girls named Harper. I would avoid it for a boy for this reason.

Harper Liam sounds a lot like Harper Lee (female author of To Kill A Mockingbird).

Thanks for your honest opinions! I've pretty much assumed it's gone to the girl side too (stop taking all the boy names!! grr! lol). I told my DH I thought it had, but wanted some thoughts on it Smile

It's a girl name, unavoidably. It might be pretty embarrassing for a boy to go to school with a bunch of girls with his name.

I agree it's become a girl name. He would probably be in a class with 2 other Harpers, both girls. That might be rough for a little guy to handle.

Yeah, once I told DH it's a boys name gone girl name, and he'd probably be in a class with girls named Harper he changed his mind. He is pretty bummed though since he liked the name and we've had a tough time picking one!

Oh well, on to the next... lol.

It was ranked 119 last year for girls. It is definitely a girls name at this point, but I don't think it is overwhelmingly popular. I have never met anyone with this name.

I wouldn't name a boy Harper. It's pretty trendy for girls right now (and has the bolster of being a literary reference---for a woman).

Liam Harper is nice, though.

While it is increasing in popularity for girls it is also increasing for boys too over the last four years. Sure there are more girls than boys with the name, but I don't think just because a girl has the same name as a boy makes it impossible to use given that it is a unisex name.
