Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Has anyone else developed an allergy after pregnancy?

Never in my life have I had an allergic reaction to anything. Well now I am allergic to something but we can't figure out what. This past weekend I woke up with a rash that basically covered me from head to toe, and it was very itchy. It lasted several days before I could get to the doctor. This also happened about a month ago - Both times I went to the doctor I was prescribed a Prednisone pack. This time I was told to start taking Zyrtec, and to see a dermatologist so they could try a skin scrape.

We think maybe it is a food allergy, since I was covered literally from head to toe, but I haven't eaten anything different. No different detergents for laundry, nothing.

The doc wants to find out what is causing the reaction because the medicine isn't curing anything, just treating the symptoms. I am a little suspicious of Diet Mountain Dew: Code Red (Don't laugh at my choice of beverage lol). This is the second time I have gotten this soda, and the second time I have gotten the rash. The only problem is that I forget when I got this soda first, so I can't tell if it lines up with the first time I got the rash.

Anyway, I got to thinking: How many other women are experiencing new allergies, and how are you going about trying to find out what it is?

  • I haven't developed an allergy; however, I used to have nice smooth skin on my arms and after having DD I have what I would describe as "chicken skin" with little white pimply-looking stuff on my upper arms. Seems like a lot can change from pregnancy/giving birth, so I wouldn't be surprised if you developed an allergy!

  • I couldn't have any dairy when I was pregnant. It wasn't an allergy, but an intolerance (digestive, rather than immune). Now Abigail can't have dairy.I'm now intolerant to tree nuts and corn.
I tend to call it an allergy because people generally don't know what an intolerance it, and I generally don't feel like explaining it.
But yes, I definitely have food issues now.

But, thankfully, I now have enzymes I can take so I can still eat it.

ETA: I found out by trial and error testing on my own... It would have been less painful to see a specialist, but there were insurance issues.

  • I don't have any specific allergies, but my seasonal allergies have taken on a whole new life! It's driving me crazy! I've never had trouble like this before.

  • YES!  Holy God, yes!  And it is annoying!!!  Never had any problems with allergies pre-Lulu, and now dust and pollen are my worst nightmare.  I had no idea that that could happen.

  • I've had an allergic reaction to medicine with aspirin in it, which I never had before.  I'm not usually an aspirin person, so not a big deal.  But I've had allergies to ibuprofen too (before pregnancy), so that will be interesting if I ever have to go to the hospital for something.  I also had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic.
