Trying to Get Pregnant

Question about SA's

For those of you who's husbands have been through this. Were they tested after testing was done on you? I spoke with a nurse at my OB office and she was explaining that they like to test the woman and if nothing is found there, then test the man. I am currently waiting to see what the doctor says/does. I wanted to go ahead and rule that out just to give me a little bit of a piece of mind. Apparently, I may have to wait.

Re: Question about SA's

  • SA's are not nearly as invasive as tests for you. They're also pretty affordable. If insurance doesn't cover it, then they're usually about $100-150 OOP. I'd push for it first or at the same time as your testing. They're really so so so easy to do. Most places will even send a sample cup home so your DH can collect there and bring it to the lab within an hour.

This.  As my RE says, "It is the best $150 bucks you will spend."

Thanks! That's what I was thinking. It makes no sense to me that they would wait until they do tests on me, when it wouldn't take much to rule out a problem with him. I will definitely push for them to get him in.

Reason 5,387,209 why OBs make terrible fertility Drs. Regardless of whether or not they find anything "wrong" with you, they need to test your DH.

One third (30%) of infertility can be attributed to male factors, and about one third (30%) can be attributed to female factors. In about 20% of cases infertility is unexplained, and the remaining 10% of infertility is caused by a combination of problems in both partners.

  • As you can see from my posts the last few days my DH just had his done and I am not being referred to the RE until September 1st if I am still not KU by then. My OB said we can have his done at anytime. And since it is much less invasive and less expensive for him to have this done and he can get it done whenever I had him schedule it so we could get one thing checked off the list and then look into my testing if needed.

My DH was able to call his primary care dr and get the referral and then go to a lab and get a cup, take it home and drop it off when he was finished.

It's sad when people who are not doctor's are more logical than those who are.  Thanks for your input. I completely agree with you. There is no reason they should wait. As said before, I will push to have them test DH as soon as possible.

  • DH had his done before a lot of my testing; my doctor said his testing was a quick and easy test that would provide a lot of info.

My DH scheduled his SA right after our first RE appointment. Either way we would have both gone through with all of the testing. If they were to find sonething wrong with me, that doesnt mean that there isn't anything wrong with DH. Regardless of your results, YH should have a SA. Good luck!
