So..about this pumping thing.

I have a manual pump.  I've tried using it a few times, but I've found it really weird and haven't gotten much as opposed to when I'm hand expressing.  I'm trying to build up a freezer stash, but I'm still just hand expressing because I hate the pump so much. 

I don't really have money to spend right now on a fancier pump. Any tips on using a manual pump? I think maybe I'm having a hard time with letdown because I find it uncomfortable.

    I think you should set money aside and get a double electric pump as soon as you are able! They are so worth the money. I have had great success with  mine.

    And this might sound weird, but I have to think about DD while I'm pumping or else I get nothing! When I'm at work I flip through pictures of her on my phone. I've heard other moms took little video clips of their lo's to watch while pumping.

    Mine has two ways to pump - fast and slow. Pump fast for letdown and then go slow for the rest of your pumping session. That is what the LCs showed me, but my manual is just a backup and I hardly get any milk from it compared to my electric pump. I would highly recommend renting an electric pump if you can't buy one right now.

    This - I close my eyes and make a mental picture of DD nursing, I think about looking into her eyes and imagine the noises she makes

    I agree to invest in a double electric pump! I am doing well with the lansinoh double electric pump. It's about $130 on amazon and free shipping when you sign up for amazon mom. I also love my hands free bra, but heard a good trick to just use an old sports bra and cut slits in it to use.

    I have the Medela Swing (single electric) and I love it.  Its perfect for me for building a freezer stash. I usually pump after DDs first morning feeding and during her first stretch at night.  The Swing has worked so well for me. I feel like buying the double would have been a waste of money since I don't pump all the time.

    I don't know that you should invest in the double electric pump unless you just want to spend that kind of money. I am working on a freezer stash for when I go back to work, we also travel a lot with doctor appointments and Abbey takes a lot of bottles of breast milk. Everyone told me that I had to have the Medela PISA which is a nice pump but I find myself still pumping one breast at a time because i hate sitting there holding onto both while I pump... I can't multitask that way. LOL. I think that they have some nice electric pumps (which I think that you do need, I couldn't imagine using a manual pump!) that are not very expensive if you could set the money back for one of those. It would probably make things much easier.

    Do you have a hands free bra--definitely worth it!  I am pumping right now :)

    Money-wise, do you have a Flex medical spending account? They will reimburse 100%. I bought a $200 Ameda and all I had to do was fax in the Amazon packing list. They covered the optional accessories pack too.
