I've been TTC for 14 months....even the old "have sex and get pregnant" method isn't working for me.
I think you'll find most women on this board don't give 2 hoots about Shettles...they just want a baby.
Thanks, not asking if people use it for gender selection. Just asking if you think you will be able to guess the gender of your LO once PG based on when you BD compared to when you O.

I plan on having enough sex around O that it won't really matter what Shettles' says.
For fun though... I am going to see how accurate this is:

Did you know you have to actually use your "lunar age" when you do this, and the "lunar month?" Hard to believe folks say it is 90% accurate. I wonder... it will be interesting to see.
There is so much more that goes into gender selection than what day you have sex on.
Seriously.
Agreed! A friend of mine has two boys and swears that her third is a girl because of Shettles. I say it's 50/50 no matter what!
I have a friend who keeps telling me it works because both of hers were the gender she "wanted." I just want a healthy baby, just like I did with DS.
IMHO, if Shettles actually "worked" the sex population of the world would be skewed in a serious, alarming way. Biology determines the sex of a fetus, not timing--timing is one of the many factors in getting a fetus at all.
I agree that there is probably some logic to the Shettles method (ie girl sperm lives longer vs boy sperm) but you have to take into account acidity in the man and woman, the quality of the man's sperm, etc, etc. I think that gender selection is actually pretty cool since there is only a 50/50 chance, yet no one knows exactly how it works.

I did not know that... but honestly, it would just be for fun anyway. I just want a happy and healthy baby. We'll start with one and go from there.

What do you mean? I'm pretty sure we know exactly how it works. The egg is fertilized by either a Y sperm (boy) or an X sperm (girl).

The fact that people say this and believe it makes me want to rip my hair out.
Even when couples pay for gender selection, there are no guarantees. So I would say the chances of this working for you outside of a lab environment are pretty nil.

Well yes, I know that, I did pass AP Bio back in 11th grade.
What I meant was that everything that goes into deciding if the Y or X will be the one to fertilize the egg. Right now the only way to ''choose'' your gender is in a lab. So many factors have been shown to play a part in determining the process of fertilization and gender. So many things have to be taken into account such as the amount of ''girl'' vs ''boy sperm in a male, environment, diet, lifestyle etc. If it were as easy as just the chromosomes in the sperm someone would have figured out how to choose boy or girl by now.

According to Shettles, there is no possible way that my son, should be my son. He should be a girl.

Well, no. Shettles is supposed to increase your chances of conceiving a certain sex, not making it only possible to have one vs. the other.
But Shettles has been disproven in several medical studies so I'm pretty sure it's all BS anyway.
We had sex ~4 times right around ovulation (day of and day before) and we have a girl.
