I've never put shoes on LO before, but now that she is walking the dr said she needs shoes for protection when we are out. So I went to StrideRite today and they said if she is walking she needs the Stage 3 (Up & Running) shoes which are flexible but much more of a thicker, sturdier sole.
I got these today https://www.amazon.com/Stride-Rite-Toddler-Bailey-Mary/dp/B00400OI36/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_cart_3
Did you get something similar or more of a stage 2 (super flexible) something more like this when your LO first started walking ? https://www.amazon.com/Robeez-Plain-Jane-White-Toddler/dp/B00403MRFE/ref=sr_1_15?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1309137027&sr=1-15
and oh my goodness...kids' shoes are more than mine! and I don't grow out of mine!!
Re: shoes?
We love Stride Rites, but we have the Stage 2: Early Walkers. They do seem to help him keep his balance, and he stands longer and takes more steps when wearing them. (up to 9 today!!!).
The ones he wears the most are these: (sorry no clicky - on Safari) https://www.striderite.com/store/SiteController/striderite/productdetails?catId=cat1530400SR&productId=8-113631&skuId=***8********BB29127*W040&stockNumber=BB29127&showDefaultOption=true
And yes, they ARE so expensive, aren't they?! Personally, it's pretty important to me to have good quality shoes, for him, though, since I come from a family of bad feet.. He just moved up a size, so we actually bought the same shoes (the ones above) again in the next size since we liked them so much, as well as a pair of sneakers. Two pairs at a time are more than enough, IMO!
I think when they are just starting to walk and are just doddling around, I'd go with the "stage 2" type shoes....and then once they are really moving then go to "stage 3." I think you will know/see when she is ready for the stage 3 b/c you will notice that the soles (esp the front/tips) of the shoes will start to get worn down.
and yes, they are so $$$!!! but they are soooooooo cute it is hard not to want to buy them all up! the only thing that keeps me from buying so many is b/c i am such a cheapskate
if you live near nordstrom rack, I see Stride Rite shoes there regularly that are priced about $15-25

The first pair I got him were flexible -- See Kai Run "Smallers," since he didn't do much walking out of the house at first. All the other pairs (starting with size 4) have been more like toddler walking shoes, and they've definitely been put to good use.
I absolutely love See Kai Run shoes. They are pricey (I've paid $20-30 on sale), but I only get him one pair per size and they last a couple months. The buttery leather is amazing, too.
WE had a couple pr of Robeez but he didn't really wear them - I didn't really think they were good for outside in the winter and he didn't need them inside. So he was walking when we finally bought him these

Luckily they still fit - I was having a cow over the price too!
I really liked the pedipeds and see kai run (smaller) shoes when J was just learning to walk. Once he was really steady I felt that he needed more protection and moved to the stage 3 Stride Rite.
I never see good ones at the Rack, but do have great luck at the Stride Rite outlet if you happen to have one of those near.
I like the See Kai Run shoes too, but he is rough on shoes at daycare so I prefer to send him in more athletic type shoes.
J LOVES shoes. He get really excited when we go shopping - holds out his foot to try on (even if we are not shopping for HIM, haha). It's cute.
LOL, how cute!!
Thanks for the input. I actually ordered a few more pairs today just so I could try them out on her & return all but the best fit. I don't know how she is going to respond to not having bare toes anymore!
I completely agree that they are worth the $$...it still seems like a racket. They know they've got you!
And seriously...how cute is J!?
