Can you figure out how many gallons of water a pool holds by knowing its circumfrence and depth in inches? I teach second grade, this is beyond my scope lol.

How big of a pool are we talking?

My 27' above ground pool holds roughly 14k gallons. (4.5 ft deep I believe)

Volume of a cylinder:

A cylinder with radius r units and height h units has a volume of V cubic units given by

You'd have to convert radius to inches (radius is 1/2 circumference) to give cubic inches. Then:1 cubic inches = 0.00432900433 US gallons

I believe that it depends on the shape of the pool.

I had to figure it out once for my parents in-ground pool after my boyfriend (now my husband Wink ) turned off the wrong valve and EMPTIED THE ENTIRE POOL while we were house-sitting.

Ha ha. At the time it was horrifying--in that sick to your stomach, omg, I'm dead kind of way. But it is funny now...and you'd better believe my dad told the story at our wedding Big Smile
