We are planning on taking C's car seat on the plane next week, but we're not sure which one to take. Has anyone traveled with a Britax Marathon on the plane? Is it too big?
We traveled with the Marathon last year (DS was 2) and it did fit on the plane, however my suggestion would be to gate check it. DS did 1000 times better on the return flight without sitting in the car seat. He scremed bloody murder the entire take off because he didn't want to be in the car seat. When we allowed him out to sit with us he did MUCH better. Then on the return flight, we gate checked it and he did awesome. We no longer bring it on planes. Just my .02.
We've traveled with the Marathon quite a few times. It was tough getting it in rear facing, but possible. And fits forward facing no problem.
Unlike the PP I like having the carseat. We stopped using it with DD around 2.5, but both kids slept so much better in it. Without the carseat they would be crawling all around and wouldn't settle down. We'd strap them in and they may fuss for a minute, but they'd conk right out. And unless you are going to be traveling a lot I don't think any gizmo for carrying it is necessary. We just loosen the straps all the way and wear it like a backpack.
Thanks ladies! I think we will take the Marathon. I feel so much better with him in that car seat than our other one. I think I will get the Travelmate. I hate how expensive it is, but it looks so much easier!
Re: Car seats on airplanes?
We've flown with a Boulevard and a Marathon, either one fit just fine.
I highly suggest a GoGoKidz Travelmate to get it through the airport!
(read it. you know you want to.)
