Trying to Get Pregnant

Going through Puberty....AGAIN

I am TTC and have been off BC since February. Since going off the pill my hair has been extremely greasy. When was all BC I used to wash it every 2-3 days and it was fine...now I have to wash it everyday. And if I don't it is so greasy that I can't be seen in public. It's that bad...This last cycle I ovulated (I think) around June 11th, since then i have been breaking out like a teenager going through puberty....And actually I have a 13 yr old sister and my face is worse than hers!!!!! What is up?! Is this normal? Are my hormones just regulating? Will this ever end?

Also if anyone else has gone through this, do you have any shampoos that you could recommend, or face washes? Preferably a face wash I could continue using throughout pregnancy? Thanks all! :)

Re: Going through Puberty....AGAIN

  • You sound EXACTLY like me!  I think I ovulated on June 11 too (based on CM and ovulation pain)...and I have SO MUCH acne!  When on BCP I would get one or two here and there...but I have TONS right now.  It is so embarrassing!  Right now i am using Murad to help with it...but it has salacylic acid so I won't be able to use it once I get pregnant.  I have been trying to go "all natural" when possible and I bought some pure lavender oil and that helps with my blemishes as well.  I have always washed morning and night...my friends who have perfect skin NEVER wash and tell me to stop using all the products I do because they think that is causing it.  I worry if I stop that I will break out even worse!  So when I am pregnant I plan to use Cetaphil since that is just plain soap...i think it a lot but need the acne meds for now!  I sure hope this ends...I am really praying it is just hormones regulating themselves too.  No idea what to tell you on the shampoo...I try to shampoo every other day but have noticed my hair gets more oily too...

  • I don't have anything to recommend regarding shampoo and/or face wash but I just wanted to let you know it is completely normal.

When I first got off BCP I had headaches, some serious breakouts and I was a moody mess. It is just hormones regulating. After the first two months my symptoms went away.

I hope things go away soon so you can stop feeling like you are going through puberty again!

Yep, totally normal and yes, it should end as your body adjusts. I use Mary Kay skin care and it really helped keep my breakouts to a minimum before, during and after pregnancy but I am sure there are others out there that can give you more recs.

  • The same thing happened to me. I stopped BCP in Nov/Dec 2010 and my hair was pretty bad for a few months. My hair is back to normal now but I am not sure if the culprit is the hormones or prenatal vitamins (which I stopped taking 2 months ago bc I am taking a TTC break for a few months). I tried a bunch of shampoos and nothing worked! Hope you find something!

  • I've gotten hormonal acne off and on for years.  The only thing that's ever worked for me is using a clay mask as a spot treatment over night.   (Its a hawt look, DH just loves it.  Ugh.)   This one from Sephora looks like it might be pregnancy safe. . .. https://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P54104&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=4348

  • Clinique products are the only thing that works for my skin.  You can go in and have them evaluate your skin and recommend products.  They are somewhat expensive but last a long time.

Have you tried dry shampoo?  It might be useful in between washing your hair.  It's almost like a spray powder that absorbs the oil in your hair.

  • I use Proactiv.. Not sure about once you are preggers though.. I've also in the past used Clinique and LOVED it... I also use the Bare Minerals Makeup and find a HUGE improvement in my skin when I started using it.. as for the oil and grease its only going to get worse with summer upon us.... I would try and keep my hair up off my neck/shoulders to help keep it at least localized .. ( used to breakout around my neck during the summer.. now I wear headbands and keep it back during the summer months to help with it....

THIS!!!  I love my dry shampoo.  Tresemme makes a good one for drug store prices.

  • Thanks Everyone! So much help! Glad to hear it's not just me! I do use Bare Minerals they are great! Hopefully, this will end soon or I'll get preggers! ;)

......I also used Proactiv when I was on the Pill, but my  dr. told me to stop when I started TTC....

Or maybe grunge will come back in and I'll be all set!!!! :D

  • I went off BCP a year and a half ago and my face is still breaking out! It didn't start breaking out until I had been off of them for about 6 months and the breakouts aren't as bad as they were. I stopped using so many products on my face and started using Acne Free(it's like Proactive), I just stopped using the extra stuff so hopefully my face will improve more. I had gone to the derm. but they prescribed me stuff I can't use while TTC or pregnant so I think I'm also going to go back if it doesn't get better with just face wash. But I definitely feel your pain!

  • I have used Mary Kay since I was 18. My dermatologist recommended it because when you mix face wash, moisturizer and foundation brands it can cause break outs. I have had clear skin (knock on wood) since. I tried everything before and nothing worked for me!

  • i'm a mary kay lover too. if it works!!

but regarding your hair: try to use T-Gel by neutrogena. it smells like you know what (because it's made from coal tar) but NOTHING, i repeat NOTHING else works as well for hair issues. it can actually even be oily dandruff that you're having, and the T-Gel is what every dermatologist tells you to try first. don't use it every day if you have light hair though. no more than 2-3 times a week. also, another option is Tea Tree shampoos for the in-between days. it makes your head tingle. Paul Mitchell makes a really really good one.

    GOOD LUCK

  • My teenage breakouts have never really gone away.  Embarrassed They seem to be more related to where I am in my cycles now though.   Lately I have been getting a ton of acne on my neck which is just gross.  My dermatologist recomended either Cetaphil or Neutrogena oil free face wash.  I have heard many others say their dermatologist recomended those brands as well.
