My DD has been grabbing our cups and putting them to her mouth. I plan on getting her a cup tomorrow just to practice with. As for the juice not for awhile DS was 2 before he had any.
I was just reading something (I can't remember what!) the other day that said the "golden age" to introduce a sippy cup was 7 - 8 months... I'll probably wait until LO is holding a bottle well on his own, being able to pick things up purposefully, has good hand eye coordination, etc. I want it to be a fun experience for him, not stressful! I have no clue what brand I will use - I'm interested to hear what others suggest! I also don't know what my thoughts about juice are... I suppose I am interested in hearing about that too! ha. I'm never thinking ahead about these things - just (trying) to live in the moment!
Once she gets a good grip on her toys, I'll introduce a sippy. I'll probably just put water in it. During my last Pedi apt she said "If you don't give juice the she'll never ask for it" I probably won't introduce juice until later, I think.
She's not quite ready yet. She's still really developing her grasping skills with toys, and she can just barely help hold the bottle. I may try around six months. Juice I'm planning to hold off on until after one year. Juice really has so few natural ingredients, and most brands are full of sugar.
I've already given one to DD to play with. When she started reaching for things, I just decided to pick up a cheapie Munchkin one with handles. She loves the bright colors and holding it while chewing on the spout and handles. When she will start drinking from a sippy is another story...
ETA: oh and no juice anytime soon. The only time she's ever gotten any was watered down in a bottle to help her poop per the pedi.
I just bought DS a sippy cup. I got the NUK brand-learner cup. He grabbed right onto it and puts it in his mouth. He hasn't mastered the tipping part yet, but it's mainly just to get him familiar with it. He loves it! I bought the NUK sippy because it had really good reviews and it looked easy enough for him to grab and the spout was soft like a nipple on a bottle. It is found in the bottle aisle, with the NUK bottles/Nipples. I haven't found it in the sippy cup aisle.
As for juice, he won't be getting juice for quite some time probably not until well after 1 year. I might even wait until 2.
