Success after IF

another ?. nursing moms- advice please.

Well...  between my 2 pregnancies and then nursing my kids- I haven't been drunk in a few years.  I have had a couple of drinks since Liam was born, but thats it.  My good friend is having her bachelorette party next month and I am determined to make this work so I can party and get DRUNK!   The party is in Chicago and I plan on having DH watch Izzy that night at home.  What I am trying to arrange is for my sister to stay in the hotel room with Liam- so when I get back from the bars he will be there.   When do you think it would be safe to nurse him again??  Lets say I start drinking at 7pm and have like 5 or 6 beers over the next 3-4 hours?  I plan on drinking early (7pm) and stopping around 10 or 11.  Plus I have a really low tolerance for alcohol these days so 5 beers and I am sure I will be DRUNK!

I am hoping if I do this I can nurse him for his 5 am feeding...  but I don't really know how this works with drinking and bf since I really haven't been drinking much these days.  What do you ladies think?

thanks :)

  • If you can feel the effects of the alcohol then don't nurse.  It's all going to be based on you, your metabolism, and your tolerance for alcohol.  I can tell you that on the few occasions I could really feel the alcohol (not just a buzz, but probably drunk) I couldn't nurse in the early a.m. - so have a pumped bottle ready just in case.

ditto the above...for me I would say at 2 hours post drinking I felt fine but as stated above there are many factors.

Enjoy getting your drink on!!! Have fun!

  • Like others said if you feel fine enough to drive, you are okay to nurse.  The HUGE caveat is that you are likely to be unable to drink the amount you mentioned in your post without getting sick.  If you haven't been drinking much (duh), your tolerance isn't what it was before even if you were just a social drinker.  You should be very careful that you don't over do it and get sick, not just unable to nurse.

I craved beer while pregnant and wanted one as soon as I gave birth.  Three sips and I was buzzed. Months later, a few sips of wine was too much.

Have fun and enjoy your girls night be be careful.

Yeah I was thinking about that after I posted.  I seriously doubt I will be able to drink 5 or 6 drinks. If I have one beer these days I have a buzz... so my tolerance is very low.  5 or 6 drinks and I would be passed out on the floor.  I definately wont let it get that far lol!!  I guess I will just see how it goes :)
