We've been told different things. One being for 6 months and the other being "until he catches up".
Just curious what your experiences were.
Side note: our NICU gave us like 3 months free (combo nursettes and powder). They rock!
Teagen was only on neosure 3 months and then it started making her extremely constipated so her ped switched her to similac advance and no problems so far! She weighed 3 lbs 11 oz at birth and she weighs 10 lbs even now
#1 I am jealous of your nicu, #2 we were told because we had micro preemies with growth issues it would be until 1 year at least
We were told this as well. He was very growth restricted when he was born. I guess it just depends on when he "catches up".
We are super grateful for our NICU! The savings is huge for us. I saw a can of neosure at Target was $15 and a case of nursettes on amazon was $50. It is pricey!

Neither of my guys have been on it. How are you giving it to him - all neosure or mixing with BM? Just curious b/c my little guy has decided that he doesn't like the taste of BM with HMF and MCT oil. He's gonna have to get extra calories somehow.

He handles it great. He does 2, 2oz bottles of neosure and 6 50ml bottles of bm daily.
You can fortify with neosure though. I know this because we thought we might have to do it (in addition to the 2 bottles). I think they said it was something like 1/4 tsp of neosure per 45ml of BM. Def. ask your pedi about trying the 2 bottles of neosure a day instead of fortifying each bottle (it is a lot easier too than fortifying each bottle too). Gabe is on the 22cal neosure, but I know they make a 24cal too (it isn't as readily available though).

We are crossing our fingers to be off at our 6 month appt. Hunter, my smaller twin was weighed at his cardiology follow-up on Friday and came in at 13lb 14.5oz so I think it will happen!

I take 7oz BM and add to it 4 TSP of neosure. Stick it in a jug, and shake to combine. I don't do separate bottles of neosure and then separate bottles of BM.
For us, we weren't given a set date on when to stop the neosure. Instead, it's more of a "wait and see". That, once she starts BFing exclusively (no bottles), then the pedi will track her weight gain. If it's good, then continue as is. If it's not, then we'll go back to replacing breastfeeding sessions with bottles made of BM+powder.
Yes, DS was on Neosure for all 50 days of NICU, two weeks at home, then when we went back to [new] NICU they forgot to give it to him, so we all considered him weaned. They monitored him while in there and since his weight continued on just fine without it, that was that

You might want to check with your insurance and see if Neosure is covered. My Lo is on Neosure and my insurance is Blue Cross Blue Shield and they cover Neosure. They wont cover under our prescription pland but it is covered under the medical plan because they consider it a medical nesseciaty. I only have to pay 20% of the cost for a 1 month supply. Good Luck!!

My girls are 9 months on Thursday and we are still on it and I'm not seeing us get off of it anytime soon. We are weighing in about 14 lbs both - we were tiny preemies too and since we aren't on weight charts yet it may be a while.
Sam was switched by his ped at two weeks adjusted. Neosure was binding him up so badly, that the Enfamil Gentlease was so much easier on him. He has been gaining very well ever since he came home.

Yeah, his insurance doesn't cover it. I checked. Bummer. I'm glad yours does!

until 12 mo adjusted. DS was born at 30 weeks..and never had a problem gaining weight, but said for developmental benefits, to stay on til 12 mo adjusted.
LO was born at 34 weeks she was on enfacare until she was 10 weeks because she was gaining weight so fast and able to eat more volume for more calories.

I asked the pedi about this just yesterday. My office's policy is to keep them on it for 6 months and then assess their progress. If they've "caught up" for the most part, then they can be switched to regular formula. If not, they'll be reassessed again at 9mo and so on until they reach 1 year. I know it sucks that the specialty formula is so expensive, I really wish we could switch them. We go through almost a can of Neosure a day, and it's about $16/can...
DS is 14months actual 11months corrrected and the pedi just gave us to ok to go to whole milk, We have been on enfacare the whole time. He is still not on the growth chart but the MD doesnt think the switch will make a difference.

We're on elecare but they said to expect to be on it until about a year
Our NICU gave us about a 2 month supply too, praise the Lord b/c that stuff is $55 a can and she is eating a LOT now
