Anyone not losing weight??

I am 5 weeks PP (had an unplanned c-section) and I am breastfeeding and I am NOT losing weight the way everyone said I would. I am constantly hungry and trying to eat somewhat healthy, but I have only lost like 10 pounds (and my baby was 8 pounds!!!) What gives????? Anyone else??? I have my 6 week checkup on Friday. I hope I am given the all clear for exercise, because I feel gross and fat!

  • Maybe keep a food diary to see how much you are eating and making good choices? Sites like Fitday.com and sparkpeople.com are free (I think!). BFing burns calories, but you still need to make good choices and really only need abt 500 calories more per day when BFing.

That said, some people don't lose weight until they are done BFing. It is frustrating I know! I joined WW last week to help me out. I had lost all my PG weight, but things were not back to normal. It really helps keep me accountable - I just do the online version, no meetings.

  • Don't feel bad, I'm in the same boat. I knew it was going to be a battle because my body is a fat storing machine and I basically have zero metabolism (yes, that's an exaggeration, but seriously my body hates me). I was still walking 5 miles a day until I went in to be induced and eating healthy and still gained a ton of weight while pregnant.

I've only lost 18 pounds since I left the hospital, and I was back to walking 5 days PP, jogging 11 days PP and have been doing long speed walks with the stroller or hitting the gym and lifting/swimming/running every day since then.  I am also breastfeeding.  It's been hard, emotionally, since I had just lost 65 lbs and was in the best shape of my life when I got pregnant, but I just have to keep reminding myself that its not going to happen overnight for all of us.  Everyone's body is different and as long as I'm being a good mom, and doing my best to get back to where I feel comfortable, that's all I can really expect out of myself right now (easier said than done). :)

  • I gained about 45 lbs total during the pregnancy, had a c-section, and lost 30lbs within the first 2 weeks.  Now I have leveled out and don't seem to be losing that last 10lbs...it's all flabby belly I think.  It will take some work to get rid of it!

This is where I am at. I retained so much water the first week PP, that I actually hadn't lost any weight, even though the 8lb baby, the placenta, and all that water had fallen out of me. 30 lbs fell off in week 2 though. I was losing like 5 lbs a day and then it just stopped. I have about 20 lbs left and I cant wait for my 6 week appointment so I can start working out. I would like to get back down to my college weight, so I have about 50 lbs total to drop, so i want to get started!

  • ME! Although I'm not BFing, I am watching what I eat closely and keeping a food diary...and it seems that no matter what I do the last 14lbs will NOT come off. I know it takes time so I'm trying to be patient. Luckily tomorrow I will hopefully get the OK to start exercising. Hoping that once I get back into it I'll have another loss before hitting a plateau again! This is my last one so I have my whole life to get in shape, but it doesn't mean I don't want it right now :) I miss my skinny jeans!

After #2 I hit a wall around 9 week PP. I started working out with a trainer and that really helped. Then once I was in a routine, I focused on diet. Was in striking distance of my pp weight when I found out I was pregnant again with #3! I worked out my entire pregnancy and was hoping it would pay off now, so far it's not any different. Even though I need to lose 14, I WANT to lose 20.

GOOD LUCK! you're not the only one. I know it's hard to read all these posts by women who seemed to lose it all in the first 2 weeks and back in normal clothes...

  • I lost a bunch right away, hit a plateau for a while, and now I'm gaining. Mainly because I was experimenting with increased calories as a way to boost milk supply. Didn't work so hopefully I can turn the weight around again too.

I have been hanging out at this weight (15 lbs. above my pre-pregnancy weight) for a few weeks now.  I know that weight loss is 90% what you eat, so I've been trying to count calories. It's hard figuring out the amount of calories that won't hurt my milk supply but that will also allow me to lose the remaining baby weight.
