Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Vent- DD:1 Mommy: 0 (xp)

Sorry to xp -just need to vent and I'm hoping there is someone out there to commiserate with.

DD took her usual 37 minute nap this morning (after talking and rolling around for 45 minutes) - fabulous *sarcasm*.  We had lunch plans with a friend and a couple errands to run this afternoon, so we went to do those things and she took 2, 25 minute cat naps while we were out and about.  We get home and it was time to feed her and she seriously needed a good long nap.  We sat in her rocker while I nursed her and she could hardly keep her eyes open while she was eating.  As soon as she finished she dozed off in my arms.  I stood up, laid her in the crib and gave her her lovey - all normal things for a good long nap.  She woke up a bit when I put her down, but didn't fuss or anything.

Next thing I knew she was rolling around and talking again.  I left her in there thinking she would eventually fall asleep.  Nope - 30 minutes later the talking slowly turned to fussing, which then turned into all.out. SCREAMING.

I'm talking gag-herself-while-she's-yelling-at-the-top-of-her-lungs.  I'd go in, shush her, give her her paci and she'd be fine.  Leave the room and 20 seconds later - gagging and screaming again.

After 20 minutes of that I gave up and now she's in her exersaucer laughing at what a sucker her momma is.

How does this child not need more sleep??

  • Mine has done the very same thing since he stopped the newborn falling asleep after every feeding deal.  I rarely ever get a nap out of my little guy.  Our pedi chalks it up to him being a sleepy eater.  Somehow he manages to snooze and eat at the same time.

  • K does this sometimes. After about 3 days of little napping she will sleep pretty solid for a full day to catch up.

  • My DS has always been a 30 min napper.  I asked the Dr. about it at his 4 mo appt and he said he gets enough sleep at night and doesnt need to nap anymore than that.  He usually sleeps from 7:30 - 6 or 7am.  I thought he needed more sleep than that but I guess not because it has never happened.
