Morning ladies! Welcome to our very first nesting challenge. I'm a little nervous because I've never headed up anything like this on tb, so hopefully it all goes over well.
This week's challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to clean out one drawer, closet, or other small area. It could be the medicine cabinet, the pantry, your kitchen junk drawer...you get the idea. Just choose one area where the chaos has taken over a bit, and organize that area. I'm giving us a relatively small task, because I know some of us are on bed rest, or working two jobs, or taking care of toddlers. But if you want to do more than just one area, go for it! Also, if this is something you've already got covered and you have a more pressing project that needs to be done this week, that's fine too. The goal is just to motivate and encourage each other.
Feel free to comment on this post with what you plan to accomplish this week, and we'll come back next week and post progress and/or pics.
Happy nesting!
Re: Nesting challenge: Organization
My junk drawer regenerates like a starfish. The day after I clean it out it is jam packed again. So I am going to leave it be.
My personal nesting challenge will be to clean out/organize the master bathroom cabinets.
hmmmm.... I'll try to participate
I plan to clean off the top of our dresser in the bedroom. It's got so much crap on it it's like the inside of a junk drawer lol books, baby clothes, my clothes, mail, pictures...etc
Ahh! I love this challenge because I unknowingly already completed it on Saturday!
Does that count?
This is such a great challenge! Thank you for organizing.
My pantry and spice cabinet is in DIRE need of major organization. I am pretty sure I have four of everything in my spice cabinet.
I also hope to get the new baby's closet done, but I want to shoot for small goals first!
I did this with the office a few weeks back...now it's waiting on DH.
However, I have two drawer's in the kitchen that need to be organized, so I will do that as part of this challenge!
Good Morning nesting ladies!
We are moving this week so I hope to put things in the new place in a much more organized fashion!
But for that little bit extra I think I will be organizing my jewelry box. It is always a total mess and has a bunch of stuff that I won't ever wear.
Sure! Now you can either work on something else, or just take it easy this week. Your call.
I am also going to clean out the closet in the soon to be nursery. There is not that much in it but it will be easier for me then my husband. I will know where the things should go and he will move them into a new and different pile. ha! I will be so happy when I can see that closet floor!
Thanks womancake for the reminder that it's on!!
Yay! I cleaned out two dressers in what used to be the guest room (and is now LOs room), kept/donated/trashed the old clothing, and we sold the dressers to make room for his new furniture. Such a great feeling to make some progress!
Oh, it's on like Donkey Kong.
(And I know what you mean about husbands just moving things to a different pile. We've been living together for over 4 years, and he still doesn't know where things go half the time!)
My goals this week are to clean out all three of our closets and get rid of the junk/clothes/shoes that we no longer wear. I'll need to get some kind of organizers for our shoes as there are soo many, and our closets are tiny. Also, I will work on our "junk buffet". I have a beautiful antique piece of furniture that I put junk in. That needs to stop and be cleaned out!
ETA: Are we still doing before and after photos?
ETA Again: I didn't see where you said pics. Sorry! I'll be taking before and afters.
Ditto! I've had all these lofty goals, but hadn't made much progress. My parents are in the middle of a kitchen renovation, so they are in need of meals. In exchange for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, they came over and helped move everything from my closet in the spare bedroom, soon to be nursery, and move it into the other spare bedroom. We then visited the Container Store and designed my new closet and the baby's closet (although there's nothing in it for him yet). Next weekend they're coming back to help paint LO's room and set up the crib.
I still have a lot of organizing to do, including my kitchen (pantry and pots/pans) and under the bathroom sink.
Now that I have some time- I will be organizing the bedroom upstairs that we moved out of...to have a bedroom next to the baby's room down stairs. Everything that was in the the guest bedroom downstairs and the office (which is the baby's room now) was just thrown into that room upstairs, so I have a lot of work ahead of me.
I also, wanted to organize the hall closet and the sun room. hahaha...I know I want to do a lot but it doesn't all have to be done this week, of course.
Thanks for the motivation!!!
I have pretty much accomplished organization in every closet drawer in the house over the last few months since we realize storage space and space in general is going to be maxed out in a couple months. But, there is one area that needs some major help and that is the closet and cabinets in our master bath. So, that's my challenge for the week.
Hopefully next Monday the cabinet under my bathroom sink won't require me throwing things in and slamming the door just to get it in there!
Thanks for doing this!
Nice job WC on your first Bump posting project
I started tackling our guest room closet yesterday but stopped about 1/3 through. My goal is to finish it this week. I know closet space will continue to get more cramped when little man arrives, so I am trying to create as much room as possible.
Wow! You are feeling mighty ambitious this week, huh?
Lol! I sure hope so cause I finally got DH to help me make the garage look less like a junk yard and more like useable storage! **happy dance!** My next goal is to work on the office. >.<
Same here! Except on Sunday! I cleaned out the nursery closet, put the bedding in the crib and finished emptying out the dresser drawers. We had been using the nursery for our own closet and storage. Now I need to wait on FI to clean out our regular storage area so we can organize that alittle better! So that will hopefully be the project for one of these evenings this week!

Challenge accepted and completed. I am a teacher and since the beginning of this glorious summer off (last 3 weeks) I have been nesting up a storm! I have reorganized:
*Our entire basement (donated or trashed 50% of the stuff we had, reorganized all off-season, non-maternity clothes in labeled bins, sorted pics, wedding and x-mas stuff.)
*The walk-in pantry (food, spice rack, table linens, etc.)
*Every single kitchen cabinet!
*The junk drawer
*The linen closet (cleaned out so we will have 1 empty drawer and 2 empty shelves for LO's stuff)
*The attic (redid our filing system and cleaned out all books and stuff for donations)
And NOW, I am exhausted. Baby's room next
I'm going to do this also!
Well being that we've only been in this house a little over a month, things are relatively organized. I'm going to work in our "spare room" which is full of the boxes we haven't unpacked yet, trying to make some order in there. That may just be my project for every week of this challenge.
And I'm going to get on DH to keep working on his office. How is it that I've finished the whole downstairs and our bedroom, and he can't finish one little office???
Can I say I'm jealous!? I have an empty jewelry box. My jewelry consists of my wedding band and engagement ring. I have a few pairs of earrings and a couple necklaces.
ETA: I just cleaned out the junk in the cabinets in my kitchen yesterday as I finished my kitchen cleaning extravangza. I think I might focus on putting away MY clothes as they are taking up 2 laundry tubs in my room since the majority of them I can't fit into. If I just hang what needs hung and put the rest away until after LO is here then maybe my room will be more user friendly (even though it is clean).
BFP #2 6/16/12 EDD 2/25/13 MC @ 10w
I will be cleaning out the soon to be nursery closet. This houses duplicated wedding gifts that have been there 2 years that we couldn't take back. Board games, random left over wedding decorations, all of LO stuff 9what little he has so far) and who knows what else...I already got a jump on this somewhat when Womancake posted about wanting to do a challenge last week. I got rid of 2 duplicate wedding gifts and gave them to a soon to be married friend. And threw away all of the bags I received wedding gifts in. I guess I thought I would re-use them or have them as a keep sake, but who am I kidding? In the dumpster they went!
If I can get that completed then I will take it one step further and start clearing out the actual room too. Which currently houses all of my craft supplies (haphazardly placed), college text books, an old tv, old cedar chest, and iron & ironing board. My goal is to use half of the closet space for my craft supplies and half of it for LO. I figure he doesn't need a whole walk in closet and a dresser right now....
