Question about etsy...

There was a post from earlier today about cute etsy finds and I have to say everything was absolutely adorable. I know this might sound stupid, but I feel like I have trouble finding cute stuff. I am obviously missing something, anyone have any hints for how you find all the cute stuff?

Re: Question about etsy...

  • I have to go there with something specific I am shopping for. I cannot just go and look and happen upon something I like.

For example- we will buy a gender neutral car seat, but I want to buy a gender specific car seat cover. So I searched those, and found some really cute ones that I am excited about.

A few months ago I was struggling to find throw pillows for my LR...so I went to Etsy, and searched throw pillows there. I didn't end up buying anything there, but I used what I realized I liked to find something here in town.

I rented tissue paper poms for my wedding-again I went looking for something specific, and it made it a lot easier.

I just think you have to be specific-otherwise, like Ebay, its overwhelming. Be careful on Etsy-I've always been happy, but I have read stories of others who weren't and Etsy doesn't police as well as Ebay does. Just something to consider when buying from Etsy. Make sure you understand exactly what you are getting, and have realistic expectations. Read the seller's feedback carefully-and anything that sounds somewhat neutral or negative take it to heart-it takes a lot for most people to leave bad feedback, so its worth listening to when  you see it. • I usually just click on the "Children" tab and go from there. Then I just scroll through until I find something that catches my eye. If it's not exactly what I was looking for then I search for the same item in more specific terms

ETA: Once you start adding shops and items to your favorites, Etsy does the work for you and starts suggesting "Shops" and "Items You May Like" based on your favorites, previous purchases, etc.

  • 1. I get specific with my searches too. ie... felted crafts; specific fabric designers (esp. alexander henry); organic products...

    2. I always go to the etsy store that the items I do like come from,  they tend to have similar items.

    3. If I am really into it, I will look at who else likes that shop and see what else they like.

Aside from that, I could spend hours flipping through etsy, so maybe I just spend a lot of time sifting through stuff. I bookmark it all or save them to my favorites on etsy so I can find it again.

Thanks everyone! Maybe next time I decide to look I won't feel so overwhelmed.
