I have one more week left before I begin maternity leave and I've been daydreaming about winning the super lotto while I'm out so that I never have to come back! What would you do if you won $100 million???
We'd both quit our jobs and move to San Diego. DH would fly up here for Stanford games. I'd like to start my own school with people (faculty, students, and parents) who I liked. We'd travel extensively.
I would resign from work via postcard sent from some fabulous tropical island that I fly to as soon as I cash in my ticket. That would be followed by a large donation that would make them less pissed at me for leaving them high and dry.
From there, I would start working on plans for my dream house. We'd have to figure out where said dream house was being built. I'd probably also work on plans for a dream vacation house as well.
We'd buy two new cars, pay off my parents' cars and buy them a new house, pay off my sister's cars and pay off their house, and figure out something nice to do for my in-laws too. I'd probably give my BFF a low-interest loan so that they could get a house.
After that, I'd invest the remainder so that I could live off the interest for the rest of my life. I'd be a SAHM until the kids went to school at which point I'd volunteer part-time.
Is it obvious that I've thought about this A LOT?!?!
I think 100 mil could go really fast. Buy a house in Pedmont where the schools made the top 100 in the USA list (there goes 2-4 mil!), put aside at least 30 mil for Riley's schooling, retirement, savings, and then new cars. Live off the intreast of the rest in savings and I would go back to school for my masters.
I'd hire a financial planner to help us invest the money so we could live very, very comfortably off the interest. DH and I would both quit our jobs. Then we'd buy a big plot of land (still in the area to be close to family) and build our dream house. We'd get some pets, since we'd have a gardner to clean up the poo and a housekeeper to clean up the hair ;-) DH would take cooking classes and we'd have a personal trainer to help us work off the gourmet dinners he made. We'd give our parents a big chunk of money, help my brother buy a house, and give my grad school sister some money. We'd adopt a girl from China sooner than we'd planned. We'd travel, take great family vacations, and build a vacation house, probably on Maui. We'd open a nonprofit foundation for kids. I'd volunteer as a child advocate.Ahh, it's nice to dream.
We would quit our current jobs and buy/build our dreamhouse in Santa Barbara. I would pay off all debt for our immediate family and provide them with enough money ($1-2mil each) to pursue their dream career/life.
I would start a non-profit for foster kids and use my JD to advocate/lobby for foster care reform.
I would spend my kids' summer vacations traveling the world.
Quit our jobs is first. Buy health insurance is second. Debt. New cars/house next. Vacation. College/life fund for DS. Give my mom some retirement money since she'd be losing her job as DS's nanny. And then we'd make a plan so that we don't drive each other crazy in the house all day for the next 50 years.
I think if commutes and jobs were no object, we'd likely move to SLO or the central coast. Smaller town, coastal breezes, equidistant to our families. Then we'd spend our days figuring out how to get our yard in Sunset magazine just for fun.
become a sahm with nanny, have more babies, adopt a bunch like angelina jolie. shop untill i was bored. and then rest on a beach till i was a sweaty tan prune.

We would buy a house here, in gold country and in Scotland.
Then we would give money to our families to pay off their debt.
Save up for retirement.
Donate to various charities.
oh yah, and quit our jobs.
Retire.
Pay off the houses.
Buy my parents a house up here.
New cars.
Set up Trust Funds for the bambinos.
Pop out a few more bambinos.
Vacation home.
Extended vacay in Maui starting immediately (see popping out bambinos, lol).
Donate and Volunteer.
Shop.
Personal Trainer, chef, housekeeper, gardener, and other staff as needed.
Hmmm...how much is left?

Hmmm...probably also buy a house in Lake Tahoe.
