Anyone losing space for nursery?

I'm trying to figure out how we're going to rearrange our house once we lose our "office" when we turn it into our nursery.  Just curious if anyone is losing an office or other room that's currently being used for their nursery.  What is your plan to rearrange?

Re: Anyone losing space for nursery?

  • We moved the guest bed into the office for now.  We eventually will get just a futon for guests to sleep on in there.  We have a huge sectional with 3 recliners.  One is a chaise lounge that reclines and it's almost like another bed.
  • Loading the player...
  • We have a 2 bedroom condo with a loft upstairs. My DH's son's room is going to move upstairs (he wants the loft so he has "privacy" and all his game systems are up there anyways) so then his bedroom will become the nursery. I don't like the idea but right now its our only option.
  • We live in a two bedroom house, Im loosing my makeup/jewellery room lol... I really loved that room! Its also our spare bedroom. We are keeping the spare bed and just adding a crib.

  • we are also losing an "office". we never really used it so it's ok except for all our books and cds had to be stored away as there is no where else to put them! oh well, the next house we buy will hopefully have a family room or something for a new bookshelf. we are using the ikea bookshelf for baby things now and the books are in the basement!

  • We are loosing our dressing room. Our master bedroom is too small to have all of our dressers in so we have them in a spare bedroom so we will need to find a new place to put our dressers and a futon to make room for baby gear.

  • We have a two-bedroom townhouse. Right now it's our bedroom and an office - and the office is barely functional right now; I had a stationery shop that closed late last year, and the office is crammed with all my inventory. So there will be some garage rearranging (we never park in there anyway - it's only one-car) and a stationery fire sale as well. :) The office will become our nursery and guest room (it's fairly large, and the 13'-high ceilings will be great for fun lofted beds later on), and my desk will move into our bedroom (in my bio, there's a nook with an elliptical in it where the desk will go). We're also doing some custom built-ins in both bedrooms to add some storage. Tim Gunn would be proud of how we're making it work. :)
  • I am losing my scrapbook room...for now it is going to move into the guest bedroom, but that will become an issue when we have baby #2, but I am trying not to think of that right now lol....i need to talk my hubby into sharing his mancave but it is such a mess that I don't want to even think about scrapbooking in there! However I haven't even started to rearrange anything, it's just all in my head!

  • I'm losing my office.  We are going to get a computer armoire like this and put it in our dining room.

ETA: We are selling our desk in a garage sale, and moving the bookcase into the living room.  I also have a small table and chairs in the office right now, and I'll probably keep them but just move them into the attic until we get a bigger house.

  • We have a 2 bedroom townhouse with a loft area. Currently the 2nd bedroom is an office/gym. Our complicated plan is to move DH's desk to the loft, my desk to the living room, put the twin bed (currently in the loft) into the nursery, and move the workout equipment to the loft. DH will be getting a good workout!

  • I'm losing my craft room :(. We currently live in a 2 bedroom, and will probably be moving before LO gets here, most likely another 2 bedroom.

I have sooooo much craft stuff (scrapbooking stuff mainly) that LO will probably end up sharing the 2nd bedroom with all my crap just b/c we don't have anywhere else to put it at this point.

  • With DS I lost an office.  We moved one computer into the living room and one into the attic, which is a spare bedroom.  The kiddos will share a room until we end up finding a bigger house. (I don't think DS is big enough to be in the attic bedroom) I was hoping it'd be before #2 got here, but it's not looking that way.

  • Our office is becoming the nursery.  We will be moving the office stuff into the spare room.  The main space issue is my books.  I have three large book shelves and four smaller ones, and they were all in the office.  They can't all fit in our spare room so now some are in our bedroom too.  Eventually the plan is to finish the basement and make it a playroom/library.  That's not happening any time soon though.  That's a whole lot of money we don't want to spend now.

We are giving up our guest room for the nursery, so that MH can keep his office.

  • Our nursery is going where the guest bedroom used to be. We moved the guest bed into our office. We did have two computer desks in the office because I have a laptop and hubby has a desktop. We took one desk out, and I just put my laptop in the laptop bag unless I'm using it. There was plenty of room for the desk, extra chair, and our full size guest bed. It works for now! We have the nursery completely empty now, and I can't wait for painting and furniture in a few weeks!

  • I'm giving up my sewing room.  Most of my stuff will go into storage in the basement and my husband said he'd carve out some space for me in the office.  I figure once the baby comes I won't be doing that much sewing for a while anyway.

  • Yes...we're losing our guest bedroom.  Our other spare bedroom is the office, which also houses my craft table (which takes up a lot of space).  We do have guests occasionally, so we don't want to lose the guest bed...so that needs to go into the office.  I'm not sure what to do with the craft table.  Originally I was going to move it into the nursery, but I'm not loving that plan.  I don't even want to think about what we'll have to do when we have a second.  We're not planning to move for at least 5 years.

We live in a 500 sq ft 1 bedroom house...so we're losing a corner of the bedroom! We have very little space to begin with, so this is going to be very interesting.

  • We're currently on the search for a 3 bedroom house rental we can afford but so far no luck. So it looks like we'll be keeping our guest bed in the nursery and finding another place to store the "office supplies" like my bookcase of all of my medical books and research. We just can't give up the guest bed. Living in HI, we get tons of guests!

  • We're putting the nursery in what is now the guest room. The plan is to finish the basement this summer/fall and we're adding a bedroom and bath down there, so that will become the new guest room. In the short term, it means I don't really get to start working on the nursery because there's nowhere to put the guest room furniture while the basement is a construction zone! No complaints, though - I'm excited to expand our living space!

  • We have a two bedroom house, and are losing the office/craft room. The office is now sharing the dining room (3 bookshelves, a dresser, and antique desk). My "craft" desk was just a piece of junk from college so it's getting thrown out, and ALL of my craft supplies have been put into bins and boxes and stored wherever they will fit around the house- bedroom closet, storage closet, under the bed, etc.

  • We are in a 3 bedroom house.  One is our Bedroom, one is a Guest Room that is basically my dressing room/scrapbook room, and the third is the office which is basically my DHs room.  We decided that the baby will decide who gives up a room, if its a girl she will get my room and we will move the spare bed into the office and my scrapbook stuff to the basement.  If its a boy he will get the office and the office will be moved into our den.

  • We are in an 800 sq ft, 2 br apartment style condo (no basement, no attic).  We will be losing the spare bedroom/wedding present storage space for the nursery.  We have to sort through it anyway because we have to move out of the condo for at least a month (hopefully by early/mid august, I'm really sick of waiting) so the condo association can do structural repairs related to the building settling.  Once we have a date to start the work, we will sort through and purge everything (because DH can't see the purpose of doing it before we know when they are coming, even though we need to do it whether the work gets done or not).  I'm hoping to have paint picked out by then so we can just tell them what color we want the room to be painted, and save us some of the work.

  • This will sound selfish, but I am loosing my Art room and Im pissed.  Last summer I just got the room fixed the way I like it with the right shelving, drying racks, easel, table exc... And now everything is getting boxed up and put into storage except for the paints which will have to go to my parents house so they dont freeze and my sewing machine will have to find a cupbord.

  • If all goes as planned, our neighbor will be moving into the attic apartment in our building and we will expand to take over his apartment, adding a much bigger kitchen, bathroom, and 3 rooms to our flat. One of those will be the baby room.

If it doesn't go as planned, we will probably be loosing our guest bedroom/luggage storage/hockey equipment storage. (we seem to acquire a lot of luggage...)

  • Sort of, but we gained a bedroom because we just moved. Right now it is the extra storage/office room, but it was always going to be the baby's room eventually.

However, our bedroom is HUGE, so we're going to have baby in with us for a while, probably at least the first 6 months. Once we're ready, then we'll worry about making the extra bedroom into the actual baby room. But then again, I'm just not the type who HAS to have a nursery all decked out for a baby who honestly couldn't care less what room it is in or how it's decorated.

Not sure where the office stuff will go, but it's either going in the kitchen/dining room area or our bedroom. I'm not too worried about it.

The future nursery is currently an office/guest room and our other spare room is a guest room so we are moving the office part to the other guest room and will take the bedding and furniture out and just store it for future purposes.

  • I live in a 3 bedroom house. DS1 (4 yo) and DS2 (15 mo) share a bedroom right now. Their room is the size of my bedroom, bathroom, and walk in closet combined. It's a huge room. Our spare bedroom is used at least once a month. To start off the baby will be in a cradle in either my room or the living room (right outside my room) right next to the rocker/recliner. Once the baby is sleeping better, all three kids may share a room (if all boys), or I will put the crib in the extra bedroom and downsize from a queen to a full size bed for guests. We shall see. How I wish i could afford a bigger house!!!!!!!
