Hey guys,
My numbers have been good with minimal changes to my diet, but my husband and I work crazy hours so it is very difficult to get always prepare food for meals much less get 3 meals in! Does anyone have any good ideas about foods that are good for GD at fast food places and/or sit down restaurants?
Re: GD moms eating out
Most restaurants have their nutrition information online these days. If I know ahead of time we're eating out and where, I will look up the menu and check carb content for the things that sound good. If I can't get that info, I stick to things that are generally safe - grilled chicken with a side of steamed veggies is a pretty universally available dish. If I go for a club sandwich or a wrap, I usually eat half and save half for lunch the next day.Since most foods come with starchy sides, I will also order a side salad and eat only half the starchy side.
At fast food restaurants, most of the time a burger and a side salad is a safe bet. Sometimes chicken nuggets work, but you have to watch the carbs in the breading. Grilled chicken sandwiches can be a good choice, just watch what type of bun they are on.

I've only went out a handful of times so far, but here' what I got that were good on my numbers:
Grilled chicken snack wrap (I got it without sauce) at McDonalds with a small french fries
6 inch turkey and bacon on flatbread from Subway
Steak quesadilla from Taco Bell
Chicken soft taco from Taco Time

This time, I can't eat that much bread, so buns from fast food restaurants don't work for me. I agree with the others...pick a sandwich or chicken nuggets and get a side salad. The only way to know what works for you is to try it, so if it results in a bad number, you will know what to do differently next time.
Fast food restaurants are great with putting nutrition information on their websites. How accurate it really is, who knows, but at least it could give you an idea.
Definitely look up their nutrition info online. You will be surprised at how many things that are to eat. I usually go for chicken nuggets from McDonalds. I can't eat fries at all and I stick to just a little ketchup to dip them in. Supposedly, a Big Mac is within my carb limits for lunch and dinner (60g), but I haven't tried it. From Taco Bell, I usually stick with a taco salad with extra meat. The beans serve as my carb and I don't just eat the little tortilla strips. I also have found that I can eat a double decker club sandwich (with 3 slices of bread) as long as I have a side salad and a low-carb side, like cole slaw with it. BLTs work great for me, too.
Mexican food is my go to meals. Tacos with hard, corn shells, taco salads, fajitas, guacamole, etc. all give me great numbers!
I've eaten out the last 4 nights and have gotten low numbers after each one!! I take a 10-20 minute walk and it makes an unbelievable difference in the numbers I get. I would highly recommend it. I haven't made too many changes either, one night I went and got tacos, chips and salsa, the works. My number was about 121.
But to answer your actual question... :-) I stick with a protein, the other night I got a steak, instead of getting my normal baked potato with it, I got vegetables. One day I got this grilled chicken sandwich w/ avocado, etc. and I took off one piece of the bread and cut up the rest, I got a salad instead of fries.
