Two Under 2

How old were LOs when you started bathing together- or don't you?

Thinking ahead for the possibility of bathing both girls together now that DD2s cord stump came off.  Clearly, she is too young now because she wouldn't be able to hold her head up if we had her in a bath ring or something like that.

If you bathe your kids together, when did you start- and what did you use for the youngest?

Thank you!

  • My oldest was 22 months and the youngest was 6 months...the baby could sit on her own then. Still was a 2 person job until the baby was more stablle.

  • I haven't tried so far, but I'm thinking about it. I have a bath seat that I'd sit #2 in. She's 7 months now but doesn't sit up on her own very well.

It's not the actual bathing that makes me hesitant, it's the logistics of getting them both out and dressed in our teeny bathroom.

  • We started bathing them together using a bath seat at about 5.5 months.  In the past few weeks I have been able to take the bath seat out and just bath them together.  It has been fun!  They enjoy splashing each other :).

  • I started, when DD2 was about 3 weeks old.  I don't put very much water in the tub for DD1 anyway, so I just put the infant/toddler tub in the big tub.  We don't have a bath ring, so I'll probably continue to do this for awhile.

  • We dont bathe them together. DS gets a shower every morning with either myself or DH. He went through this phase where he hated baths, so it just became easier to do it that way. We can only give DD a bath once or twice a week (she has ezcema) so I do her bath in the infant tub.

When she starts getting more mobile and needs more frequent baths, we will get a bath seat so her and DS can take a bath together.

  • We started when DS2 was about 3 months old. Not the intended use, but we used the Bumbo in the tub for DS2. (I have been scolded on here before for doing that- but it isnt like I put him in the Bumbo and left the bathroom, I was right by his side the entire time). The boys have always loved taking baths together.

DS2 always hated the infant tub, and did much better in the big tub with his brother. We do baths every night and the kids love it.

Same.  I'm surprised ppl on here scolded you for the bumbo?!   Early on, I wouldn't fill the tub very deep, and once DS was out, DH would fill it more and stay with DD.

  • They started bathing together a couple weeks ago; we also use a Bumbo.

  • We started bathing them together when Jack was 7 mo. old and sitting well on his own even in the tub. However...we have started not bathing them together because DD found his penis 2 weeks ago and pulled on it (not hard) so DH said he thinks it's best for the safety of Jack's (in his words) "weiner" LOL.

  • When DDwas about 6 months old we put her in the tub in her mesh sling seat. DS just needed a lesson on where he can help clean her and no dumping water on anywhere but her feet.  They love bathing together now.

  • We have a bath seat that looks like a bouncy seat , so LO doesnt need to be able to sit up in order to be in the bath. If he is awake I will put him in with the girls (16 months and 2 1/2 years) but if he is sleeping during bath time we have one of those baths that sit in the sink. His cord just fell off a few days ago so he hasn't bathed with them yet, but this is what I've done with all my others. I'd say that they probably bathed in the bath consistently with their siblings around 4 months, that's when they started to have a good routine and bedtime could be predicted.

  • Thank you all for your input- what great ideas!  We will definitely wait a bit longer, but all of these are great options to try/think about!

    Thanks again!

  • I just started this week and we use this bath seat for DS https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000U0NY7Q

I keep the water level low but DD has also poked his penis asking what it is! She seems more interested right now that he also has a belly button but I am sure that will soon change.
